For Birth Control "I have been on the NuvaRing for a little over 3 months (because my doctor made me see if it would get better although I tried to change to something else less than a month in). I have gained 15 pounds, lost my sex drive, and have been extremely moody and unable to feel like myself. However, I would have to say the worst side effect is the breast tenderness. I have been on many different birth controls, and this one has more unpleasant side effects than any other birth control."

For Birth Control "I've been on the ring for 4 years. I was on the patch before that, but I had an allergic reaction to the adhesive. I leave each ring in for 4 weeks without any gap weeks, so I don't have periods (though I take a gap week each year). I do still get moody, cramps, headaches, and sometimes spotting during the would-be PMS week. I have gained some weight since I started the ring, though I am not sure if this is because of the ring or just my eating habits (or if the ring causes my sweet tooth). I take it out for sex, it can be out for up to 3 hours a day. I have a short vagina, so the ring can be on my cervix and still be right at the opening, which can be annoying because I can feel it (not the ring's fault, just a note for others with this issue)."

For Birth Control "I was on NuvaRing for a little over a year and finally took it out because it caused too many negative symptoms that I tried to ignore because it was an easy and reliable birth control method. I constantly had hard, cystic bumps on the jawline, which would flare up twice a month, moodiness, random stabbing pain in my abdomen. When I finally gave it up, it was because it was preventing pregnancy, but sex was pretty pointless while on it because I had so much vaginal irritation, and it was making me emotional because I could not enjoy it at all. I've been off NuvaRing for two months now, and these symptoms are gone, so I know they were linked. My skin is clearing up, and the irritation is gone."

For Birth Control "I'm going on my third month of NuvaRing. I have had about a four-pound weight gain (I attribute it to my eating habits), increased moodiness, and my acne has progressively worsened. However, this is the best and most convenient birth control method I have had. My sex drive has not decreased, no vaginal irritation but excessive lubrication, my period lasts 2-3 days, and no spotting while the ring is inserted. My breasts are tender around the second to third week, but nothing severe. Additionally, during my second month, I did have a case of nausea and vomiting for about two days; I'm not sure where this stemmed from, though. Overall, I give NuvaRing a thumbs up for me."

For Birth Control "Only used NuvaRing for 11 days. Breasts were so painful, super tender, and I was cramping for 7 days. After the period ended, non-stop every 5 minutes, I was craving sweets. I was kind of moody, got upset easily, sad, wanted to be alone, and felt super exhausted every day by 6 pm. I was not looking forward to continuing with the cramping for I don't know how long."

For Birth Control "I started NuvaRing 2 months ago. It is easy to remember once a month. I can't feel it at all, and it increased my breast size. But my period cramps are awful! I usually can get through the days by taking Midol and Tums, but this was incredible. No amount of medicine could make me feel normal. Walking, sitting, pooping, eating, breathing - it all hurt. My periods usually are heavy and last 7 days, and the NuvaRing didn't change much. Maybe a lighter flow. Also, I have been really moody and am feeling more and more depressed. I love the ease of this product, but there are some big negatives. I also have a few zits on my back that weren't there before I started NuvaRing... I'll wait a few months to see if anything changes."

For Birth Control "The first couple of months weren’t bad at all. However, a few months in, I started getting extreme moodiness and couldn’t control my emotions at all. Slowly it started getting worse to where I felt like a zombie some days. Like I just didn’t feel like myself at all. My temper was getting way worse. Then to top it off, I started getting extreme pain during sex, which I’ve never had! Like extreme sharp pain during intercourse. I became violently angry and felt bipolar. One minute happy and everything is okay, next minute in the blink of an eye I’m moody and it’s the end of the world. Definitely been feeling paranoid too. Then, of course, breast tenderness, occasional nausea, and more frequent chest pain. My anxiety is through the roof, and sometimes it’s almost like you feel something is wrong with you, like you get a sense that you feel like you’re dying."

For Birth Control "I have been on the NuvaRing for over 5 years, and it has completely changed my life for the better. I am a HUGE advocate for NuvaRing and highly recommend it. I was the girl who had horrible cycles, front and back cramps that could keep me out for the first day-sometimes two days-of my cycle. Clotting, moodiness, you name it-I had it. I HATED being a girl and wished to never cycle again. Well, NuvaRing was the answer."

For Birth Control "To make this review easy, I'll share a list of the pros and cons that I have experienced on the NuvaRing while being on it for 5 years. Pros: very light periods with minimal cramping (although I am lucky enough that my periods beforehand were already pretty light, but my cramps were horrible), super easy to use, can skip your period if you want to, insurance covered it, you barely know it's in there, can take it out for up to 3 hours while having sex. Cons: ZERO sex drive, moodiness, constant bloating, constant tiredness, cravings, weight gain, my vagina has actually become swollen after sex, sometimes painful sex. Everyone is different, but the cons are outweighing the pros for me at this point, so I am looking for a different option immediately."

For Birth Control "I was on NuvaRing for about six months. For the first month or two, I had terrible headaches at the end of the days I had class, but everything else was fine. Fast forward to 3-5 months, I was moody, I was even a little depressed, and I had no sex drive. I wanted to eat everything in sight. From the second month to the sixth month, I gained about twenty pounds with no significant lifestyle changes or dietary changes besides the NuvaRing. If you are tolerant of high hormone levels and don't gain weight, this might be a good option for you. It stays in for three weeks and comes out the fourth week for your period (which mine came very regularly while on it). If it wasn't for the significant weight gain, I would have stayed on it."

For Birth Control "After spending 2 years on NuvaRing and ending up on blood pressure and anxiety medicine, I’m done and never looking back! An incident with insurance caused me to lose my coverage for a few weeks, so that when I needed a refill I couldn’t afford it and decided to go without it. I couldn’t be happier that it happened that way. I realized soon after not having it in my system that I felt like a totally different person. While on it, my blood pressure was up, which led to me being put on meds for that. And it caused all sorts of other problems! Such as anxiety, depression, panic attacks, high heart rate and a pounding heart, constant nausea (I had motion sickness just moving my head), headaches when it got close to the time to take the ring out. Extreme weight gain and hunger, moodiness, anger, the list goes on! I just can’t get over how different I feel after coming off of it. I no longer need the anxiety or blood pressure meds, and my therapist even let me stop coming!"

For Birth Control "I took NuvaRing for years in my mid to late twenties. Loved it. I never gained weight, it prevented pregnancy, I had no cramps (except for the first two months), I loved the option of having a period or not, and I liked the monthly option vs. daily. The only downfall I experienced was more mucus “down there.” I then took a break from the Nring so we could have children. I am now 35 y.o., back on it, and my experience with NuvaRing is completely different... and I’m getting off it stat! I’ve had major weight gain (12 lbs), am extremely moody, I get the worst cramps, my sex drive has diminished, I feel less motivated/more tired, and I’m getting frequent migraines. I did read the risks of taking it if you’re 35 and older beforehand (blood clots), but I never had symptoms and felt I’d give it a try. I don’t recommend this at all for women 35 y.o.+ and those who have given birth. The estrogen that is added to the ring has been no bueno for me."

For Birth Control "I started the NuvaRing about 3 years ago. At first, I had some pretty terrible mood swings and migraines. I did also gain a small amount of weight. Within 3 months of going on it, my acne got significantly worse, but then completely cleared up in 5-6 months! The trick with this birth control is to definitely give it time. My headaches and moodiness lessened (now I just get a bit emotional around my period), and my sex drive has returned to normal. PROS: super convenient, light 2-day periods, bigger breasts, helped clear skin. CONS: takes a LONG TIME to adjust, slight weight gain, headaches, occasional moodiness."

For Birth Control "I took it for 3 years. Starts with a tummy ache. Then, after 1.5 years, I gained 10 lbs, had tons of problems with my hair breaking, headaches off and on (never had a headache in my life), moody (unusual for me), chest pains, breasts sore and plumper. As soon as I came off it, within one week I dropped 5 lbs. Now on my fourth week off, I have lost 7.5 lbs. I have never had to count calories and had to watch everything I ate on this medication. I always took it out and rinsed it off after sex. I did not get pregnant. Just a gut feeling I should not use it anymore because of clots. I had no acne, my sex drive was not affected on or off it. My skin glows off it, and I feel great."

For Birth Control "I've been on NuvaRing just over three months, and I love it. Had a little weight gain at the beginning, but that can happen with all birth controls. I only just had my first period on it, and it was short, painless, and no moodiness with it! Great! Also, my sex drive has increased, and both my husband and I don't feel it! No loss of ring or falling out! Wish I had heard about NuvaRing years ago!"

For Birth Control "I decided to take the NuvaRing because I'm an insane freak on the pill. At first, I did notice being moody, crying, along with some weird discharge or itching down there. But after a week, it subsided. My moods are now normal. I barely feel it inside. My boob size definitely has increased, and my weight is still fine. In fact, the 5 lbs I put on I definitely needed. It's only the first month of use, so I definitely have to wait and see how it goes, but overall, I do love it. I absolutely hated the pill and how it made me feel, and the NuvaRing is nothing like that."

For Birth Control "This has been a horrific 3 months for me. Let me start by saying I have gained about 15 lbs in 3 months, and my breasts have grown 2 cup sizes. They are tender, to the point where hugging my boyfriend hurts. I am extremely athletic and just couldn't understand why suddenly I couldn't work out. I have no energy, I've been drinking triple the amount of caffeine that I usually do. My biggest change was a COMPLETE loss in my sex drive. I've barely touched my boyfriend in 3 months. I am moody, emotional, feel drained all the time, and literally hate myself. I read all these reviews, ran to the bathroom, and took it out! I do not recommend this to anyone!"

For Birth Control "I was on the NuvaRing for almost 3 years and had mostly great experiences with it. I had little to no spotting, and the initial three-month break-in time frame was easy, and I had no irregularities. I only suffered from one issue with NuvaRing, and it was a side effect I didn't realize I was suffering from until I stopped using it for the past month (I switched to Mirena). Over the course of the almost 3 years that I was on NuvaRing, my temper started getting worse and worse. It wasn't anything obvious, but now that I'm on Mirena, I see that NuvaRing was contributing to a fair bit of moodiness (but still nowhere near the moodiness I had when on oral birth control). I would definitely recommend the NuvaRing."

For Birth Control "Works perfectly for me. I’m amazed at how negative some of the other reviews are. Background info: I am 23. I was on it before when I was 19 (I went off due to lack of sexual activity). Last year, I went on a pill contraceptive which made me hungry and moody, I began binge eating and crying all the time. So after 6 months, I went off that pill, but I only had 2 periods in the 6 months that followed. I knew I had to do something to get regular. And I also knew part of the reason the pill was causing me such mood swings was that I was terrible at remembering to take it on time. I knew that the NuvaRing provided a very simple solution to that: take it, pop it in, leave it for 3 weeks, and pop it out. Amazing. My period came back, my boobs grew (I have never really had boobs, so I consider it a plus). I’m not experiencing any abnormal mood swings from sudden spikes and drops in hormonal intake. My period was relatively light and painless. Personally, it’s perfect."

For Birth Control "I am a nurse and have used other birth control products but found I would forget them, that's why I loved NuvaRing. I used it for about 6 months after my second child and was very moody, so I stopped all birth control medicines. After a (planned) third child, I used it again, except before even the second month of using it, my hair was falling out. I normally have to get my hair thinned at every haircut, now I have about a silver dollar-sized bald spot - totally bald. Thankfully, my hairstyle covers it, and I know that NuvaRing was the cause, because after just 3 days of removing it, I have hair growing back. Just watch for unexpected side effects."

For Birth Control "Terrible. I had it in for two days and was so moody, I was irritable with my boyfriend and all my coworkers, and I’m usually a very happy person. I decided to switch from the pill to the NuvaRing because I’m not good at taking my pill on time, but I could not deal with the way it was making me feel. I know that my body needed time to get used to the hormones, but I couldn’t take it."

For Birth Control "I've been on NuvaRing for 2 months. I love the ease of it. It is so nice to just forget about it for a few weeks and then take it out and have your period. The downside for me, though, was that I became moody the first few days, then that got a little better. During intercourse, it would fall out. Also, sometimes I could feel it slipping, but it never fell out. But one of the side effects I have that I don't like is no sex drive. He wants me on something, but if these are the side effects I'm going to get, I don't want to be on anything. Also, a good upside to the ring for me is it helps me gain a little weight as I'm a little under. All in all, it's pretty good other than the few side effects I am having."

For Birth Control "I wanted to love the NuvaRing, and it was okay at first. However, I woke up daily with a headache, feeling nauseous, and also had weird smell aversions. There were several times I gagged and threw up from certain smells. Finally, I was also incredibly moody and cranky a lot and was just not a pleasant person to be around. The idea of it is good, but it just didn’t work for me."

For Birth Control "I started on the oral contraceptive pill but got horrible nausea and vomiting, so this was my next option. NuvaRing has been fantastic, it has a fraction of the hormones, and I get no nausea. Insertion and removal is really not a hassle, and you cannot feel it at all. For me, it beats the pill and vomiting, along with all the other symptoms. I haven't had any noticeable mood issues or migraines. I would recommend it to anyone!"

For Birth Control "Worst experience - would not recommend NuvaRing to anyone! I’m 31 y/o and haven’t been on BC for about 15 years. This seemed like a great option, but it was the worst. I was so extremely bloated it looked like I was 9 months pregnant. I was only on the ring for 7 days before I had to take it out. Made me incredibly emotional, moody, irritable, crampy, and did I mention bloated!? After having it out for a few hours, I started to mentally feel better, but 15 hours later, I still look crazy, crazy bloated, and my stomach is in a ton of pain. If you retain water or gain weight, this will be a nightmare for you."
