For Perimenopausal Symptoms "Excellent. My hot flashes have nearly stopped straight away, no side effects except sleeping a lot better and not waking up every hour sweating. I would highly recommend this medicine, should have taken it months ago."

Catapres (clonidine) for Opiate Withdrawal "I was recently diagnosed with endocarditis a deadly heart and blood infection due to being an IV heroin user. I needed to be on IV antibiotics for 4 weeks but the fear of WDs kept me from staying in the hospital since the docs wanted me to go cold turkey. Finally thanks to the dedication of my PCP she was able to coordinate with a medical hospital to detox me and give me the IV therapy that I needed then put me on suboxone to continue treating my addiction. But in order to take the sub I had to be heroin free for at least 2 days. I was panicked about how bad the WDs would be. But the addictonologist I worked with prescribed the clonidine (a patch and up to 3 doses orally a day) and I have to say it was a godsend. It got me through it."

For Opiate Withdrawal "Been on 0.1mg three times a day for 10 days now and it has made a HUGE difference in my detox from heroin, oxycodone, and hydromorphone. Almost completely eliminated the agitation and restlessness which has always been my personal least favourite symptom of opiate withdrawal. I highly recommend anyone suffering from an addiction akin to mine to talk to a doctor about getting on it, I finally let my family doctor know about my 3 years of on and off use of various opiates and it was his first suggestion. I am also on propranolol and amitryptiline which I started at the same time as the clonidine. The only downsides I have experienced are a certain degree of daytime drowsiness and blood pressure drops upon standing up after lying down."

For Insomnia, Stimulant-Associated "I have had insomnia in such a severe degree, it could not be worse. For nearly a decade, I was only able to get 10 -12 hours of sleep every 7 days. Theres not a sleep remedy the doctors haven't thrown at me ( unsuccessfully). If I take 2-3 clonidine tabs, I sleep like a baby. I've recently discovered this. A little morning grogginess, but I'll take it. Its been awesome the last week getting some sleep! Thank you Lord!"

For Perimenopausal Symptoms "I have been taking Clonidine for about 2 months for perimenopausal symptoms. Started at 25mcg twice daily, with a light reduction in night sweats - then went back to my GP (I'm from the UK) and he issued more and I'm now prescribes two 25mcg twice a day. However, as mine are mainly night sweats - I've adjusted that to one 25mcg in the morning and two 25mcg at night. This dose is working great for me and I am now free of night sweats and getting better sleep for longer. I would recommend this to all that are going through this horrendous time - only wish I had known about other non hormonal options as I've had to suffer for over 10 years."

For Anxiety "I have a prescription for clonidine 0.1 mg as needed for anxiety. It is SO helpful! I rarely take it but when I do, it drastically reduces my anxiety and it’s not a benzo so it’s much easier to get a prescription for. I’d highly recommend it for anxiety. It does make me sleepy but I like that. When I’m feeling anxious I need that sedated feeling. It doesn’t make me feel zombie level sedated but I feel it enough to be able to get some sleep. Also, if you already have low blood pressure I would not recommend because it’s a blood pressure medication and could put you into a dangerously low blood pressure if you’re not careful."

For Opiate Withdrawal "After being addicted to narcotics on and off for many years, I finally, with the strength of my lord and savior told Dr's I am done. Withdrawals were horrible the first couple days and nothing was helping. On day three of no narcotics and just started clonidine 0.1 yesterday. It works wonders but my only complaint is that I work full time so today I'm going to try just taking one at night. Kudos for all those kicking this awful narcotic addiction, God is so good!!!"

For Opiate Withdrawal "I was a heroin and oxicodone user for years. Do not take suboxone for heroin withdrawals it does not work at all it will make u take a trip to e.r. It does not work trust me. I had so much fear of stopping opiates because of the tremendous reaction going from heroin to suboxone that I stayed on oxy's. Well I went to detox and they gave me catapres and I had zero withdrawal symptoms. Trust me if u take heroin or opiates this medicine does and will work for you. It's a miracle drug. Don't let opiates ruin your life all you have to do is take this medicine and you will get your life back. Withdrawal symptoms had me so scared but I literally had no pain when I took this medicine. It works."

For Anxiety "I have used clonidine for panic attacks (episodic, severe facial sweating due to stressful situations). This medication has been extremely helpful, resolved the sweating immediately. I have tried lorazepam, which was also extremely effective, but my clinician informed me clonidine has lower risks. Beta blockers did not work at all."

For High Blood Pressure "After several years, my BP had continued a slow increase until I got to the point of 200/100 and ended up in the ER. . Had several tests run to rule out any other issues . So they started me on a nightmare ride of this drug and that drug ALL of which made me very ill and all with major side effects. My dr finally tried clonidine 7-day patch and omg what a change. Sure the first week I did spike once but not badly (only 150/84) but after that I have been holding steady at 110/65 and NO side effects at all. I am thrilled."

Catapres (clonidine) for Opiate Withdrawal "Works very well, it will make me very sleepy and takes away restless legs syndrome, sweats, and nausea. After stopping any opiate and before taking Suboxone, you need to go through withdrawal before the Suboxone will work and taking clonidine will ease the withdrawal symptoms. It will not take them away completely but it will make it a million times easier than without anything. When trying to get off Suboxone, taking clonidine in between doses of Suboxone will really really help. Tapering off Suboxone takes a long time and needs to be taken very slowly or withdrawals will last for weeks. There are several other medications that will help inconjunction with clonidine, just ask your doctor."

For High Blood Pressure "I struggle to find anything to help my bp as well and have tried everything and always so sensitive and have side effects that drastically affect my life. I tried this and it helped at first and if you only took it once at bedtime it might be ok but I took it 2X like they said and fell asleep in meetings and at my desk, I could not function and took the first one right away since it was really high and could barely drive back to work and then had to rest my head. It was awful, I have a job calling on customers and was not functional at all. Praying for a better option."

For High Blood Pressure "I have been taking the drug clonidine for my blood pressure for going on three months now. It does mostly keep my blood pressure normal. I did have one spike one night. But if I sit up for a few minutes my blood pressure goes back to normal. I decided to look at people’s reviews because I am having some “side effects” and am concerned. My side effects are upper pain across my back, sometimes just behind my heart in my back. Also anxiousness before my next dose is due. Also some humming sound in my ears, or my heartbeat in my ears. Other minor things but mostly these are the major concerns. Any advice from anyone?"

For Anxiety "It does not even touch my anxiety. I was on Xanax for 23 years. When my psychiatrist retired, the new psychiatrist I got informed me that Xanax was habit forming. She placed me on clonidine and it did nothing. I suffer with severe anxiety constantly. Xanax helped me with my occasional episodes of panic attack and my severe anxiety. I also have ADHD and over compulsive disorder."

For Opiate Withdrawal "Hi, wanted to add a post to help convince those who do not know clonidine yet that it's the best thing ever. I'd been using heroin for years before switching to methadone. It was fairly easy to taper 5mg at a time until 20mg, where it became more and more painful/stressful - I'm now at 4mg. I didn't have a clue about clonidine until two months ago, I looked it up on the internet and talked about it with my physician and he prescribed it to me. Then, the miracle happens: I switch from 5mg to 4mg, and 48h later at withdrawal symptoms onset I only had to take 0,5mg of clonidine to avoid ALL withdrawal symptoms. I had no sweats, no anxiety, no chills, no pins and needles, no trashy feeling... TRY IT, no side effects noticed."

For High Blood Pressure "Within two weeks my blood pressure came down from well over 200, 190s and 180s down to averages of 140's and below. Incredible because for several years it was extremely high and I had a stroke in my eye because of it. I'm thrilled with the results because no other medicine worked."

For Opiate Withdrawal "I am on a regular dose of Subutex and have been for 5 years. I had to have surgery and was put on Lortab 5 for pain and I took the 20 that was given to me over a 8 day period. After my last Lortab I started back taking my Subutex but found that it was not helping me. I found myself to be in withdrawal and I was not feeling well @ all. I was hurting all over, my nerves were bad and I was just beside myself. I called my Dr. who gives me Subutex and he sent me Clonidine and within an hour I felt so much better. This drug really helped me to overcome this difficult time in my life."

For Opiate Withdrawal "I was on opiates for a few years. I finally decided the only way to be free was to confess to my family and seek help. I had tried many times to quit but the withdrawals were too much for me. I told my doctor what was going on and she gave me clonidine. It took away all the symptoms, it took me a few nights to sleep because of restless legs syndrome, but it was a miracle for me. Also very inexpensive!"

For Perimenopausal Symptoms "I have been on Clonidine for 2 months at 25mcg morning and night. I tend to have low blood pressure and low heart rate so my GP wanted to be conservative. For me it has revolutionised my life. I have suffered flushes for over 10 years and due to having had hormone positive breast cancer could not take any HRT. I have occassional flushes but nothing like I used to, and my anxiety associated with the flushing has also reduced. This was immediate. So grateful to have found this drug."

Catapres (clonidine) for Anxiety "Was prescribed this in conjunction with stimulant meds for ADHD but have found this really works well to relieve NAUSEA caused by ANXIETY. However as this is primarily a Blood Pressure Medication, it can make you dizzy if you take too much. I have found it the best of any medication to treat the nausea and upset stomach Generalised Anxiety produces. Highly Recommended With Caution!"

Kapvay (clonidine) for ADHD "My 7 year old daughter has been on Concerta 18mg for a year. She started to tolerate that medicine, but I did not want to increase the dosage. My doctor recommend we add Kapvay to her current concerta dose. This has made all the difference. She is no longer bouncing off the walls, jumping on the couch, or leaving half way through a meal. She is engaged, focused and less moody. Her emotions are more regulated and we did not tell her teacher but she even commented on the change without us sharing the news. We are so happy, and this medicine is worth the time it takes to condition to the sleepiness that happens in the initial 2 weeks. Hope the changes stay."

For Anxiety "I've found clonidine to be unparalleled at preventing anxiety of the restless and impatient type. I.e. the kind of anxiety that keeps me from sitting in one place. I take clonidine before any engagement where I must sit for a while, e.g., waiting rooms, court rooms and so on. Places where some patience is in order. Clonidine is the best for this. The only side effect is a very slight dry mouth, and that only happens sometimes."

Catapres-TTS (clonidine) for High Blood Pressure "This is a very effective medication but with extreme side effects. It is very short-lived and requires dividing the prescribed dosage into 3 times a day to avoid blood pressure spikes. It leaves you feeling "high" and sedated. Absolutely do not discontinue it abruptly. Stopping it abruptly causes your blood pressure to rebound even higher than it was before for several days. A better choice in this class is Guanfacine, which for me is even more effective and does not have the radical side effects."
