Catapres (clonidine) for Opiate Withdrawal "Clonidine is wonderful for me. I've been using heroin, 1.5 g's a day for several years. The clonidine combined with my lorazepam made the withdrawal sickness almost non existent. Best part is: you can actually get some sleep. Stay strong."

For Opiate Withdrawal "Helps with chills, that crawling out of your skin feeling and anxiety when in opiate withdrawal. Knocked out about 75% of symptoms. I've always seemed to be extra sensitive in withdrawal when it comes to those goosebumps chills etc. So I'm lucky that I had an awesome doc at the ER today who understood what I'm going through. Took clonidine 2hrs ago and feel so much better already. I thought I was going to die. Detoxed down to 5mgs of methadone from 70. Last methadone dose was 4 days ago. Still feel like crap. Just not as bad after taking clonidine. Praying I actually get some sleep tonight though."

For High Blood Pressure "The clonidine is horrible for me. I take Clonidine 0.2mg for BP and I am dizzy, have headache, chest pains and palpitations. After take it once a day at night, for 2 weeks, I stopped and felt so much better and all those symptoms went away!! About a few weeks later I experienced rebound hypertension with heart pain and palpitations and my BP was 187/116!!! My BP has never been that high!! So I took clonidine and that lowered my bp to 128/77 the next day, but those nasty symptoms returned. I had no idea the effects on the body when you discontinue it on your own. All I know is I want off and I want off now!!!"

For Anxiety "My doctor prescribed 0.1 mg (smallest dose) for anxiety, irritability and anger. It was just what I needed, although I had to cut in half as the full dose was a bit too sedating. It really mellowed me out and helped me relax. Way better than the benzo I have been resorting to. I wish I had discovered this medication sooner as I have been suffering for a long time. I recommend starting with 1/2 and even a 1/4 to see how you feel. You'll need a pill cutter. Best of luck!"

Kapvay (clonidine) for ADHD "My 5 year old son was diagnosed with ADHD just yesterday, the Behavior Specialist said his was one of the worst cases that she had seen in a while, she had suggested putting him on a stimulant medication, I told her i would like to a non-stimulant medication first and she prescribed him Kapvay. My son took it for the first time last night before bed, he went right to sleep and when he woke up this morning he was the calmest most pleasant, helpful and nicest he had ever been in his life. I could not believe the overnight change. I'm so glad it worked so fast, he has not gotten in trouble once today which is a new record! His teachers are going to be thrilled on Monday! Thank you to the makers of Clonidine!"

For Opiate Withdrawal "Pretty much minimized side effects of withdrawal/rapid tapering from Percocet/Oxycodone. I'd forgotten to call in a prescription renewal before and went through a weekend of hell. Clonidine cut back sweats, chills, body aches, restless legs - everything from withdrawal by a good 90%. Still some rough spots I went through, but I could function. Two bad side effects for me from Clonidine - cotton dry mouth, drowsiness like a fog. Better than alternative of nothing!"

For Opiate Withdrawal "Have been a regular heroin (quarter g/day) and Fentanyl (usage unknown due to illicit fake 80mg oxycodone pills hard to say how much was in them but usually 2 pills/day) user for past year and before that a fairly heavy user of oxycodone (approx. 160mg/day). Have been a functioning addict the whole time but recently have started to really feel trapped in this addiction. Anyways did some research on the best way to detox at home (going to an inpatient facility isn't an option) and found that clonidine was very highly recommended so went to my Private Physician told him my situation being honest with my current addiction intake and he prescribed me 100 x 0.1mg clonidine and 50 x 1mg Ativan (lorazepam). This combination worked wonders, took away 96% bad symptoms."

Kapvay (clonidine) for ADHD "My 9 year old son has ADHD. Kapvay was the seventh medicine that we have tried to help him with impulsivity and concentration. He has been on this medicine for nearly one year. We switched to Focalin last month but the tics came back and the restlessness at night. His school performance was no better than before so we are back to Kapvay. Since the medicine must build up in the bloodstream to be highly effective, we are in the very sleepy stages but I know this will pass as soon as his body is accustomed to the medicine. I have learned my lesson. There is no stimulant that will help my son. Kapvay will help reduce the impulsivity but improvement to concentration must come from age and proper training."

For High Blood Pressure "I have had high blood pressure since I was 29 (now 57). I started having uncontrollable blood pressure and my primary doctor tried different medicines to no avail. Ended up at the ER with 174/120. They couldn't explain why it would go up and down. The ER doc put me on 0.1 Clonidine and I've been pretty good since then. There is an issue of "cotton mouth", and it does help me relax at bedtime...But I'm doing better pressure wise and am grateful for this medicine."

For High Blood Pressure "Works reasonably well in combination with Lisinopril and Metoprolol to keep my BP in the normal range. But recently experiencing constipation and not sure I am comfortable being on clonidine for the long term. I believe much of my bp problem is related to anxiety but my cardiologist isn't interested in hearing that."

For Opiate Withdrawal "My story, is a five year long battle with two failed back fusions, starting back in 2009. With my first surgery, as anyone knows that has had a L5 s1 fusion with a bone graft taken from your hip, it is painful! So as you can imagine, you are taking pain meds! So here I am 5 years later 2014, and 2 fusion that didn't take, and hoping my third has! 4 months ago, my daily meds intake was 15 10mg oxycodone, 4 30mg Oxycontin, 4 x 5mg oxymorphone! My tolerance was very high! Finally decide, enough was enough, so I went to a detox facility in Seattle, and was put on Suboxone. What a difference, I felt so much better! Four months later, I tapered of the Suboxone, started on Clonidine. Made me tired, dead legs, but kept withdrawals away! I'M A NEW MAN!"

For ADHD "I'm 26 and took vyvanse for 6 years for ADHD. I never was able to live up to my potential in academics until I started taking vyvanse and am now an RN. I don't like the way stimulants make me feel and finally decided to quit taking vyvanse after my doctor started me on clonidine 0.1mg at night for sleep. After taking them both for two months, (vyvanse 60mg in AM and clonidine at night) I decided to stop the vyvanse and have seen amazing results with only the clonidine. I have the same energy and personality as my old self with ADHD off of vyvanse, but compared to not taking stimulants without clonidine as compared to not taking stimulants with clonidine, I feel like I can finally live without a prescription narcotic and be successful. I never thought I could live a normal, productive life without vyvanse. It feels great, and I'm so thankful that when I asked my doctor for ambien to help me sleep, she first asked me to try clonidine."

For Perimenopausal Symptoms "I tried clonidine, it worked great for hot flashes at first. Then it stopped or I got worse. Not sure. I also increased my dosage too quickly, got dizzy, fell down so be careful! I made a mistake by taking all the pills at once and they haven’t helped. I’ll try to spread them out over the day. One VERY IMPORTANT THING!!! people are writing on here that they are taking 25mg pills. That is WRONG!! I think they mean 25 micrograms or 25 MCG or 25 mcg and NOT 25 mg as they are writing. The pills come in 0.1 mg. The highest dose you can take of them is 6 pills. That is only 0.6mg NOT 6 mg or, God forbid, 25 mg!! I’m not a doctor so of course please double check me with your doctor to be sure. But I was very confused and called my pharmacy to figure it out. Hopefully I am translating what they told me accurately. Good Luck!!!"

For Opiate Withdrawal "I have been on opiates for 8 years due to back problems, my wife is also on a different dose and on oxycodine I was on hydrocodine, never the less, I started getting off of these pills on Saturday, August 2,2014, today is Wednesday the 6th of Aug, I haven't had any pain pills since Saturday morning, then today I didn't take the clonidine for 18 hours instead of the 12 hours recommended by the doctor, I must say this little pill worked wanders, over the last 8 years I have run out of course every one done does, I don't care who you are what life you live, after the first 2 years my wife and I would split our pills, now I have had enough taking off work because I didn't have one of those pills. The clonidine pill is a miracle"

For Anxiety "Hits fast and clean, noticeably lower blood pressure and can be quite relaxing. The 0.02s work better than the 0.01mgs. Too much can be dangerous with it leading to low blood pressure. There have been times I exercised or took stimulant because I was worried blood pressure was to low but if you can ride the tide it is an amazing medicine for it not being in the Xanax class."

For Opiate Withdrawal "I went on treatment for opiate addiction in December of last year. While there, I was encouraged by many other opiate addicts to begin a long term Suboxone treatment plan, as I had been an active user for almost ten years. After two weeks of being on Suboxone, I knew it wasn't right for me. So the nursing staff and I came up with a plan of action! Clonidine has been an absolute God send for me. Not only does it help tremendously for withdrawal symptoms, but it has also been incredible in combating my cravings and anxiety since getting out of treatment. Since it is a blood pressure medication, it can have some downfalls. Dizziness and drowsiness. I take 1 mg, twice daily. If I eat, drink water and stay active I'm fine!"

For High Blood Pressure "Clonidine will lower your blood pressure when nothing else works, but once you've been on it a few years (I've been on .3mg twice a day for almost 12 since I was 27) you will be stuck with it. If I miss a dose my BP can easily rise to 240/130 so use it only as a last resort after trying other meds. I have had a blood pressure problem since my early 20s and tried many other meds first, 2 of which I'm still on in conjunction with clonidine. The main side effects are dry mouth and sedation also postural hypotension (feeling faint when you stand up) these effects will mostly go away after a few weeks. It's extremely powerful so try all the others first, like I said it does the job but the rebound hypertensive effect of missing a dose will make you feel like garbage and is deadly."

For Opiate Withdrawal "Was really addicted to Norco and MS Contin for a lower back issue. L3, 4, 5, and S1 Spinal Stenosis and 5 injections later, my back no longer hurt bad enough to be on fairly heavy narcotic pain medication. I tried to cold turkey the 60mg Norco and MS Contin diet and made it a whopping 2 1/2 days before I had to go to doctor. He then put me on 16mgs of Suboxone, which he touted as being "MUCH EASIER" to withdraw off. Uhhh, YEAH RIGHT! Well, 2 yrs later I'm finally finished with Suboxone. I wish I could meet whoever the chemist was that created Clonidine. WHAT A LIFESAVER! I will say that Clonidine took away about 85% percent of my withdrawal symptoms and made it fairly easy to come off Suboxone. THANK THE LORD FOR CLONIDINE!"

For High Blood Pressure "Sharing my experience with clonidine for one reason, I had uncontrollable high blood pressure that no other blood pressure medicines could bring down. The Dr the tried me on Clonidine.. It took about 20-30 minutes to start working but it saved my life. The bad effects from clonidine that I've found, it makes me sleepy often and sometimes gives me cotton mouth. Either way, I'm still alive! Also clonidine is very affordable."

For Anxiety "Started taking clonodine BID for severe anxiety (GAD, PTSD, PD), in conjunction with my benzos (PRN). I have tried almost everything else on the market and this was the first time I was really impressed with the effects. The first week and a half I appreciated the intense drowsiness but I powered through because I physically felt relief from my racing heart. Surely this medicine isn't for everyone, but it sure helps me."

For Anxiety "My psychiatrist prescribed me .1mg 3 times a day for my anxiety and panic attack disorder. I literally have between 8 to 12 attacks daily and anxiety from the moment I wake up until I hopefully get some sleep using zzzquil or benadryl. My condition has only gotten worse and this psychiatrist I see is very rude, judgmental, and speaks down to me like I am dirt. I really hope no one else has a Dr like this. She's very unprofessional and says things to belittle me for the last 4 visits, I literally cried in my car for 10 mins after seeing her last time. She made me feel horrible about myself. Also, she left me without medication for 2 weeks. I need to find a new Dr immediately "

For Anxiety "I have Hypertension, ADD, and anxiety, the majority of the things that Clonidine is used for. I was so happy when I was finally put on it. I take .1 mg 3x a day and soon they are going to raise my dosage. It is a miracle drug, it does great for my BP and my anxiety I will say though it does not help my ADD so I am still on Adderrall for that. I do want to address something with those that are on it strictly for anxiety and who are having issues, this medication will lower your BP so if you anxiety is getting worse or you are extremely tired and possibly feeling faint, you are taking too much and your BP is more that likely to low. Try taking a smaller dosage, taking more would make it worse. For those that are saying it works but wears off and are taking the .1 mg talk to your Dr. because that is the smallest dosage and it can be raised."
