"I noticed right away that after I took Clindamycin that I had a bad taste in my mouth and tightening in my chest, which increased in intensity and longevity each day of taking it. After 5 days my chest hurt so bad I almost went to the ER. It felt like a ton of bricks on my chest, but I was breathing normally."

"Had pericoronitis several times and once and a small abscess on the gum flap which partially covers my wisdom tooth. Dose was 300mg 4x a day for a week, only took 3x a day and took longer to finish the dose. Very effective at taking care of the infection. Side effects: feeling out of it/dizzy, headache/head pressure some days, strange powdery/metallic taste in mouth, diarrhea when I came off the medicine,(lasted for months the first time, ate a lot of Activia and that greatly improved stool). I have anxiety/panic disorder and these symptoms made it really hard for me to take it. TAKE WITH A LOT OF WATER, STAY HYDRATED. HAVE SMALL MEAL BEFORE+YOGURT. DONT SKIP MEALS. DO NOT LAY DOWN FOR 30 MINS AFTER TAKING."

"I started taking Clindamycin on Thursday night for a tooth infection that had my face swollen. The 1st dose brought on immediate heartburn, stronger than usual heartburn. It wasn’t unbearable so I just brushed it off as a side effect I’d rather deal with than the pain in my cheek. 2nd dose wasn’t as bad, much lighter than the previous dose. Last night I took my 3rd dose, the heartburn started immediately, but this time grew rapidly into an unbearable pain in me chest. If I’d not already known it was the meds I’d have thought I was having a heart attack. I’ve never felt anything like it. When I woke up this morning my chest felt actually sore, that’s the only way I can describe, like the day after getting punched or something. Needless to say I’m not gonna see how the next dose goes, I can’t go through that again. Seems medications shouldn’t cause physical pain. As for my dental infection, my cheek has gone down and there’s no pain."

"Please people, do not tell people not to take this antibiotic. This drug saves my life because I'm one of the 20% of people in the world with a SEVERE allergic reaction to any other drugs related to the 'Cilin class(penicillin, amoxicillin, etc). Yes it does create more acid in the stomach but doesn't happen until around the 7th day so be careful not to go past that day and just listen to the drs since they DO know what they're talking about. One tip I would like to pass along is when taking this drug, take it with some yogurt for the good bacteria which should eliminate the side effects. Remember that this drug is a VERY strong antibiotic so side effects are going to happen. If it happens then stop taking it and ask dr for a different antibiotic which they should have no problem giving you"

"4th time on clindmycin. Twice for tooth infections. Second time now in a month for strep throat. 3 pills at a time 4x a day for 10 days=120 pills. I find it works but must be taken with lots of water and after you eat! And don't lie down for 10-15 minutes after taking it or you'll get horrible heart burn that goes from your chest up into your throat"

"I had to take this for a gum/nerve infection & the medicine did work very well but the heartburn is unbearable. It says don't lay down for 10 minutes but I'd say don't lie down for about 30min (I learned the hard way) also make sure you take it with a lot of water."

"Oh my goodness the heartburn. It is almost unbearable. And just like with any other antibiotic it seems, there is diarrhea. Just make sure to drink lots of water with this and pray you get through all the pills as quick as possible!"

"I just got put on this 5 days ago for a breastfeeding related infection in my left breast. I get the worst heartburn, tightening in my chest, and SEVERE burning in my throat. It also gives me terrible indigestion when I try to eat anything. The pain lasts for hours. No one told me about the drinking full glass of water and not laying down after. I feel a little better now, after reading these testimonials. And on the plus side it is working great on getting rid of the infection."

"I am using clindamycin for a possible tooth abscess. The doctor gave me a prescription of 300mg capsules to last until I am able to get the tooth pulled. I will agree with another lady that commented on here stating that it causes acid reflux to kind of kick up a little bit. I'm just grinning and bearing it because antibiotics can't always agree 100% with my stomach"

"I took clindamycin 300mg for 7 days. It took almost 5 days to clear up my intestinal bacteria issue...on day 6 I really felt better. It aggravated my acid reflux but I also take omeprazole and that helped a little. The BAD taste in my mouth was awful..but still worth taking because I feel much better now."

"I took Clindamycin because of a severely painful infection that was present both before and after a root canal. I was apprehensive about taking this drug do to all of the bad reviews, however, the only side effect I experienced was the metallic taste, which honestly wasn't so bad. After what felt like childbirth pain near my root canal for two weeks that wasn't responding to other antibiotics, the pain subsided after just three days of taking this medication. If I had to take it again, I would do it in a heart beat. I took precautions when taking this medication, which is why I believe I didn't have any of the nasty side effects. While taking Clindamycin, I ate a bready substance both before and after taking each pill along water."

"it's too early to tell if it's working it's just the difficult side effects. I've been dealing with brutal acid reflux and pain after swallowing (as soon as food hits the top of my stomach there is severe cramping and pain.) However, these are tips that have personally helped me quite a bit. I am not a professional in anyway: 1. Drink with a TON of water 2. Never EVER take on an empty stomach 3. Eat with a large NON-acidic meal; Good: bread, rice, potatoes, bananas, milk, plain chicken Bad: Citrus fruit, tomatoes, oils, anything fried, anything carbonated, anything with lots of spices. 4. Do not lay down right after taking 5. Take a probiotic but take at least a few hours before or after taking this"

"This drug saved my life. I had rapidly progressing facial cellulitis and had failed therapy on another antibiotic. Short of dying from it I would have nothing bad to say. Medications have side effects but they all beat death or a brain abscess. I can live with the inconvenience of sitting up a bit and some gastric distress. It is nothing compared to head, face, and sinus pain as cellulitis marches toward your brain!"

"I was just prescribed this medication a few days ago and I'm glad I read the information package before hand because there are some potentially yucky side effects to this medication. I initially had no problems with this however last night, on my 4th night of the prescription I woke out of a dead sleep with the worst chest pains I have ever had in my life. I legitimately thought I was having a heart attack it was so bad. I woke my boyfriend in a panic, it was terrifying. I have had panic attack before and I always suffer from acid re-flux but my God this was bad. I have never in my life been affected by a medication the way I was by this one. After a while it did subside but this morning I still have a dull ache in my chest/throat area."

"I was given a strep test as I had gotten it for the first time in my life in September of this year and as my neck and throat were again seeing all the symptoms in October. I was given Clindamycin 300mg as an alternative to Amoxicillin & Erythromycin as both just tear my stomach up and give me horrible diarrhea. The Doctor said to also take this medicine WITH A PROBIOTIC (Acidophilus). I did and guess what? No tummy troubles. No diarrhea.. etc. This is my 5th day and most my symptoms are gone. I'd use this antibiotic again if I had to."

"I got prescribed clindamycin 300mg, every 6 hours for a tooth infection after I had trouble with amoxicillin. After reading these reviews I was scared to death to take them but I read the directions and ate a FULL meal and took it with a FULL glass of water and I'm on day 4 and haven't had any bad reactions. My swelling from the infection went down the second day. The throbbing and pain completely went away by the 3rd day. I still feel some tenderness so I'll make sure I finish the whole 7 days. I'm talking it every 6 hours (sometime every 8 hours if it's at night time or I'm not at home) but my advice is to eat a full meal (not just a few crackers!) then take your pill followed by a full glass of water. It also says not to lay down for 10 minutes to avoid heartburn, a few times I felt something acidic come up into my throat but nothing major. I'm giving this an 8 because I have to take it every 6 hours and it's a pain to eat a full meal every time but I haven't had any bad reactions to it"

"I'm allergic to penicillin and clindamycin has been a blessing over the years for serious infections after other non-penicillin antibiotics have failed. In 2007 for a severe dental infection, and now for a strep infection in my leg. The doctors do not want to use this 'first' because it is so strong. Little bit of funky taste, drowsiness but overall I tolerate it OK."

"Took this medicine because of a tooth ache and I'm waiting for a root canal. DO NOT lay down right after you take it. I have unbelievable heartburn and indigestion...I can't even sleep. I never get this. Also take with a full meal. I took the 300mg capsule and went to bed....huge mistake. Got up had some toast and no relief at all. Tooth ache pain is gone. I'm allergic to a lot of drugs but not this one so I really have no other choice."

"I'm extremely sensitive to all types of antibiotics -- penicillin, amoxicillin, sulfur drugs, cephalosporins, Zithromax. I can't even take most OTC drugs. Unfortunately, I came down with strep throat, and had to see a doctor. Thankfully, I have an amazing doctor who found me something that worked. Here are two tips that you HAVE to follow when taking this medication even if you are NOT generally sensitive to antibiotics. 1) Take it right after you eat a meal if it says with food. Every. Single. Time. No exceptions. 2) Drink AT LEAST 16 oz of water with it. My doctor put me on the lowest dose, 150 mg, three times a day for ten days. It worked beautifully. No headaches, puking, joint pain, dizziness, or rash."

"had root canal left upper tooth with horrible pain following x 1 week before finally getting Clindamycin 300mg every 6hrs x 7 days , which finally helped after taking for 2 days; pain had been radiating to L eye and L ear and was keeping me awake at night. I am allergic to penicillin but this one appears to agree with me ; no side-effects at all, except metallic taste in the morning , and that not even every morning. I really don't mind taking this medicine, which worked great for me."

"I have been on Clindamycin HCL for 5 days now for MRSA & have 2 days left. I have had heart burn for most of my life (I was in a fire when I was 10 & was on a staggering amount of medication that screwed with my belly) but the heart burn I experienced the first 2 days on Clindamycin was the most severe I've ever had. I followed the directions, drank a lot of water, didn't lay down after taking it, etc... but I was still in so much pain & was bloated. I take Protonix to help control my heart burn, but I don't take it every day. I realized on day 3 that if I took the Protonix first thing in the morning with breakfast & waited an hour to take my first dose of Clindamycin that I didn't have the heart burn at all!!! I thought I'd pass it on."

"I was just prescribed this medication yesterday and started to take it today. I have a very nasty urinary tract infection including bacterial vaginosis. I am very anxious when it comes to taking these kind of medications for I haven't taken them before. After a day to decide to take it, I man up and took it. No side effects and it works like a charm! One hour later I felt so much better. I didn't feel like I had to constantly go to the bathroom and no pressure on my bladder, I was so relieved. I would recommend anyone who suffers UTI and Bacterial Vaginosis to give this a try."

"This antibiotic is brutal, but does its job. I began it 3 days ago due to pericoronitis (infection at rear of wisdom tooth). By the 3rd dose, the infection was basically gone. It worked so quickly that I questioned if my body had killed off the bacteria, or if the antibiotic was really that powerful. It's really that powerful. Sadly, the side-effects are quite unpleasant, but an indicator that they are really working. Fatigue, mild nausea, and lower abdominal issues seem to be quite common, and all three have hit me. It's unpleasant to the point that I've more than once thought of stopping the treatment, but I know that's a bad idea. It works really well...I just hope that I don't have to take it again for a very long time."

"Within 10 minutes of taking my first dose of Clindamycin, I had severe, crippling heartburn. Took the second dose with food and the heartburn once again was unbearable and then proceeded to vomit several times. Needless to say, I have not taken another dose nor will I ever take Clindamycin again!"

"I am taking clindamycin for a tooth abscess. I take 300 mg every six hours for 15 days. When I first started the antibiotic, my left sinus and eye area were very swollen. Two doses of the clindamycin took away all the swelling and helped with the pain. I am on day 7 of taking it. I am pleased with it because it definitely seems to be getting rid of the infection. I got a few manageable side effects - tiredness, thirst, and a metallic chemical taste in my mouth. Just a little diarrhea too, but many antibiotics do that. Drinking a lot of water and taking a daily probiotic really helps lessen these side effects. Always take the medicine with a full glass of water and food, even if it is just a piece of bread."
