"Let me start by saying that my calcium has been mildly high for years and went unnoticed until recently. I had the first thyroids, and nothing unusual was found, but I do have kidney stones and severe osteoporosis in my forearm. I was started on 30 mg of Sensipar about 4 months ago. I was taking it twice a week, but when it didn't work, I was prescribed it three times a week. It does seem to lower my calcium a little bit, just dipping into the normal range. I've had extreme migraines with nausea almost to the point of throwing up on a daily basis when I take one of this medication. Normally, I sleep about 6 hours a night, and I find myself sleeping closer to 14 hours a day now. My body feels fine, but my head is in a whole different realm on this medication. The positive is that my chronic diarrhea of up to 12 times a day has subsided. I definitely have less pain in my hips. So while, yes, it's working okay, I'm not sure I can continue taking this medication because of the side effects."

"I feel as though I was drugged, sleepy all day. That's all I would do: sleep, throw up, nausea all day. The lowest dose is 30. That's what they have us on, the clinic dose. It's some kind of clinical trial that we are on at a renal clinic. I dislike that medication. The medication has too, too many side effects. Too many people choose surgery over taking an increased dose. It works, but with all those side effects, we are watching that we stay away from foods high in phosphate."
