I have been on benxodiazepams for 30 of my 70 years. I went from Klonopin to Xanax. I have been on 5 mg for YEARS. After I read that the same family that invented and promoted Oxycontin invented benzos I VOWED to get off Xanax. I have decreased my dose over 18 weeks to .25 mg, but the symptoms are dreadful when I try to stop. My WORST symptom are a "zinging" sensation in the back of my legs AND insomnia AND sometimes really severe anxiety (the creepy crawlies.) My shrink said that the worst side effects can come at the smallest doses and to be kind to myself. I have decided to keep taking .25 mg when needed (up to 2 to 4 times a day) but NEVER GIVE UP AT QUITTING. I will keep you apprised.
WARNING
XANAX IS UNIQUE IN HOW IT WORKS AND THUS THE WORST. NEVER START IT. IT DRAINS YOUR BRAIN OF GABA.
