There are two types of Xanax:
*the standard Xanax, which comes in an oval or football shape for the 0.25 mg, 0.5 mg and 1 mg strengths, and a segmented bar for the 2 mg strength. The 2 mg Xanax pills are often referred to as "Xanax bars" and many of the alprazolam generics are the same shape.

*the extended release Xanax known as Xanax XR. These are available as 0.5 mg, 1 mg, 2 mg and 3 mg pills which all come in different shapes with a unique raised round face, which makes them look a bit like little pies. They are often referred to as "Xanax pies".
