I've tried one month w/ Victoza as instructed by the pharmacist. He recommended keeping the unopened pen in the fridge and that once the pen was opened it could remain at room temperature for 30 days. I found that after 2 weeks the appetite suppression and weightloss reduced. While starting my 2nd pen I've kept the opened one in the fridge. So far the appetite suppression and weightloss seems to be maintained. Has anyone else experienced this?
I maintain a low carb diet (approx 50g/day) and exercise 2-3 times a week. I am using Victoza for Pre-Diabetes - Insulin Resistance. Since starting on 11/16/2010 w/ a starting weight of 201lbs, I have lost 16lbs and am now at 185lbs.

My brother also uses Victoza and told me his best response was when he kept the pens refrigerated. I have done the same and have no issues with appetite suppression reducing. I continue to loose weight. My A1C is now fantastic!
My type 2 diabetis has been out of control and used more than one Insulin types as nothing seems to work after a couple months of use. My new DR didn't want to increase my insulin use ( use Levemir) 2x day and metformin Blood sugar still runs over 200 as a norm
She put me on Victoria 3 weeks ago and WOW. A miracle I haven't seen in last 8 years. Blood sugar at average 105. Insulin intake cut in half!!!
Please tell me this will keep working and I won't build a resistance!
Bad news, very costly, even with insurance I paid $157 for 30 days. That with the $481 for my co-pay on Levemir insulin is outrageous but I'll do it. More BAD news is My ins doesn't want to pay for Victosa after this prescription unless DR does full PA work up describing why?
Crazy. It works and you don't want to pay for it
Is it normal for insurance to try to deny.
Go to Victoza website and you can get a savings card that lets you pay only $25 for victoza prescription. I did this for 2 years, now the pharmacy can call and get an "e-coupon" and I still only pay $25.
How sad. Th insurance I have cover the Victoza. I just got a 3 month supply for 100.00. The full price the insurance covered was $1300.
I have type 2, take metformin and you name it..
Go to their website and register for a discount card! It gives you a huge savings.
When I was using victoza I was told by my nutritionist to always keep in fridge it makes easier to use just saying
I have had the same response with appetite suppression but on top of that I don't crave sweets anymore either. The thought of sugar makes me physically sick. I have had pretty good luck with this because when I do a lot of injections from insulin I was getting staph infections and that was causing all sorts of other health issues which is why my doctor started me on this. I wish you the best of luck and hope it continues to be a positive result.
I have noted that priot to use it needs to be kept in refridgerator, the drug is suppose to be clear and it is not to be given after the date is expired, it does talk about the probability of weight loss wishing you only the best
Before use:
* Store your new, unused Victoza pen in the refrigerator at 36ºF to 46ºF (2ºC to 8ºC).
* Do not freeze Victoza or use Victoza if it has been frozen. Do not store Victoza near the refrigerator cooling element.
Pen in use:
* Store your Victoza pen for 30 days either at 59ºF to 86ºF (15ºC to 30ºC), or in a refrigerator at 36ºF to 46ºF (2°C to 8°C).
* When carrying the pen away from home, store the pen at a temperature between 59ºF to 86ºF (15ºC to 30ºC) and keep it dry.
* If Victoza has been exposed to temperatures above 86ºF (30ºC), it should be thrown away.
* Protect your Victoza pen from heat and sunlight.
* Keep the pen cap on when your Victoza pen is not in use.
* Use your Victoza pen within 30 days after the first day it is stored outside the refrigerator. After these 30 days, throw away your Victoza pen even if some medicine is left in the pen.
* Do not use Victoza after the expiration date printed on the carton.
Do not store the Victoza pen with the needle attached. Always safely remove and safely throw away the needle after each injection. This may help prevent contamination, infection and leakage. It also helps to make sure that you get the correct dose of Victoza. See the Patient Instructions for Use for information about how to dispose of used pen needles and used Victoza pens.
