A pain management doctor kept me on it for months and refused to taper me. Pain management doctors are like drug pushers: their livelihoods depend on u taking the meds. The insurance company even wrote me a letter that I had been in it too long! Because the doctor refused, I talked to my pharmacist that I trust and he helped me taper off. It took a few weeks, and when the pain management doctor found out he was furious! I didn’t need him anymore, so I stopped seeing him. But Advil worked at that point. If you trust your pharmacist, talk to him.
I would guess that under your doctor's supervision, it would take approximately 3 to 4 weeks to get off the tramadol if that is what you wish. Just don't ever stop cold turkey! You must work with your doctor.
Do not be scared, if you do things the proper way you will avoid/minimize withdrawal symptoms.
The time to discontinue the use of Tramadol will depend on how long you have been taking it and the dose you were on.
You must stop using Tramadol gradually under medical supervision, inform your DR. and have him/her help you with a discontinuation schedule in order to stop using this medication, follow all of your DR´s guidance/advice and you will be fine.
