I had a serious breakdown 28 years ago and since then have been on an antidepressant. The last ten years on venlafaxine 150XR. I am not really depressed today, maybe slightly, but easily become anxious. My circumstances are not ideal as I have limited financial resources. That puts some stress on my situation.
I am 73 years old with reasonable health although diabetic type II and hypertension (well controlled).
Could I or should I use the venlafaxine for the rest of my life? Withdrawal symptoms just do not seem to warrant weaning off it.
Please advise.
Can I use venlafaxine life long?

Hi Nico30,
I had a breakdown about 25 years ago and have been on antidepressants ever since, the last 15 years on venlafaxine. I've had various doses over the years but am now stable on 150XR. I'm now 57.
At times I would like to reduce my dose as it does make me a little drowsy, but I am stable and no
longer suffer the anxiety so am happy to stay as I am. It's not just the withdrawal that's the problem if you stop taking them and the cause of your anxiety is still there then you will back to square one.
If you are concerned then you could talk it over with your medical practitioner.
Hope this helps.
