I have tried everything to avoid another UTI but alas I am on an antibiotic again. I've been drinking pure canberry juice every morning and drinking lots of water and emptying my bladder completely but still getting UTIs.
Help!

I have tried D-Mannose. I found that it works along with other preventive measures. However, the best has been Methenamine Hipp 1gm. along with ensuring I am drinking at least 8oz of fluid 8 times a day or more. I have had very frequent UTI's since 2008. I have taken probiotics for UTI's, D-Mannose, Cranberry juice, However, 2 days of not drinking enough fluids would set off a UTI for me. Now, as long as I am taking Methenamine Hipp 1 tablet 2x a day and drinking enough fluids. I am fine. Hope this helps.
I was getting constant UTIs and on antibiotics all the time until a PA at my GYN office recommended taking D Mannose plus Vitamin C and Premarin vaginally twice a week. In the last three years, I have had only one mild UTI which an antibiotic quickly got under control. The combo works for me.
Yes. I did try it and it did not work for me. My preventive success has been with Methenamine Hipp combined with 1.000 mg of vitamin C twice a day. It is a presccription med but not an antibiotic. It will only work preventively and will not work to treat an active UTI. See what your doctor has to say about it and, if he/she approves, give it a try. Good luck. Believe me I know how frustrating it can be.
I had Chronic UTI's for 3 years. I did try D-Mannose but for me it did not help at all. I probably tried every thing over the counter and at the health food store but the only thing that worked for me was Cipro.
d mannose usually works for me.
D-mannose is all smoke and mirrors... There is simply no real published data that supports it... it is a simple sugar that attaches to the short arms (pili 1) of E.coli that prevent the E.coli from swimming. Even if E.coli can't swim, they still float and hit the sides of you urinary tract (the epithelial cell walls) where they attach and cause the infection. The long arms of the E.coli (P. fimbriae) are the ones that are responsible for the infection. They are the anchors that hold the E.coli to the epithelial cell walls and cause the infection. D-mannose has zero impact on the P. Fimbriae. As such it cannot prevent a UTI. As for Cranberry, A-Type Proanthocyanidins (PAC), found only in the American cranberry, are the only molecules that will inhibit the adhesions (lectins) from sticking to the walls of the urinary tract. There is only one proven cranberry supplement, ellura. It meets the AFSSA (French FDAs) requirement for a health claim. The only health claim ever issued for a cranberry supplement. Believe me, it works.
I did have a doctor recommend D-Mannose so it is probably worth a try. Something else to consider is CRANBERRY 1000 sustained release supplement with vitamin C. It gives you 1,000 mg of cranberry concentrate. I have found that to be much more effective than cranberry juice. Good luck. UTIs are no fun !
Hi, have you ever tried Azo Standard tablets? They can be purchased over the counter at any pharmacy. I had great succes with them. One warning, the tabs make your urine bright orange!
Hope you are feeling better soon,
