I have been taking these two together for over a year. Never at exactly the same time. I take 50mg tramadol and .5mg Xanax. First time taking them within an hour I broke my Xanax in half. Gave me some motivation
These two drugs work in two different pathways. Always take them one hour apart. Biggest side effects are dizziness and concentration problems.
Xanax's sedative effects generally last about 4 hours (4.5 hours after ingestion). To be completely safe I would wait 8 to 9 hours before taking the tramadol. But because everyone metabolizes medications differently you definitely want to ask your doctor how much time you should allow between the two medications.
Take care for now and all the best.
Hi, magrot! Some of your tramadol dose will stay in your system for 24-30 hours and some of the Xanax for a little better than 48 hours.
Since the two drugs can cause serious interaction symptoms they should only be used under your doctor's strict supervision.
"Using narcotic pain or cough medications together with other medications that also cause central nervous system depression can lead to serious side effects including respiratory distress, coma, and even death. Talk to your doctor if you have any questions or concerns. Your doctor may be able to prescribe alternatives that do not interact, or you may need a dose adjustment or more frequent monitoring to safely use both medications. Do not drink alcohol or self-medicate with these medications without your doctor's approval, and do not exceed the doses or frequency and duration of use prescribed by your doctor.
Also, you should avoid driving or operating hazardous machinery until you know how these medications affect you. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor."
