I have only been on Tramadol for a week now and today I experienced a sense of anger all day long. I am becoming very defensive and striking out at friends and family. I have Parkinson's Disease and am taking Tramadol for severe pain in my left leg. What is causing this feeling of anger all of the sudden - I do suffer with both depression and anxiety so could this medication be adding to my anxiety in the form of anger?
Can Tramadol cause feelings of anger?

Yes, it can cause mood alteration. Tramadol, as with any opioid or opioid like drug, can cause mood swings, feelings of agitation and irritability. It can cause already existing agitation to escalate as well as depression. Good luck to you and I hope you feel better!
I understand this is off topic. I want you to know PARKINSON'S is caused by Lyme disease. Watch the documentary Under Our Skin for info on this topic.
Actually, Lyme disease can, under the right conditions, and in a person genetically/environmentally disposed to it, trigger Parkinson’s it is not the cause. It can also mimic the symptoms of Parkinson’s. Again, it is not the cause of Parkinson’s.
Hi Tramadol can be mood altering. When i used to take it i did notice at times that i was short tempered and insensitive. If these feelings continue i would discuss with your doctor an alternative analgesic...
Thank you for your input. I did a little research about possible side affects last night on various websites and did read where it can cause changes in mood but it wasn't specific enough to say whether or not one of the mood changes was anger so it's nice to learn that it's the medication. Since I have only been on the medication for a week and am just not getting this side affect, I will stay on it for another week to see if they symptom goes away on it's own or if I need to call my doctor and see about getting something different. In the meantime I will think twice before I say or post anything and will try to become more thick skinned as I have always been very sensitive.
I hope this side effect does improve for you, hopefully in time you will feel better...
