Yes, it can but apparently it has not only to do with appetite control(I don't have this side effect and still have hypoglycemia from taking it). Here's why. It's known to reduce blood sugar levels by increasing insulin sensitivity and by increasing insulin secretion by glucose stimulation.
Say you miss a meal and a snack, that's going to compound this. It's not just about appetite. This stuff is messing with insulin too.
Hi Energy89,
Yes, Topamax can do that because it staves off hunger so very much that patients forget to eat, so your blood sugar dips down.
Try to make a point of eating four small meals a day, even if you've to force yourself!
Best wishes to you,
Lara
P.S. Are you forgetting to eat quite a bit?
I have a hard time eat cause I'm always not hungry, I try to eat 4 times a day if not more but smaller meals like snacks ill eat bananas or some kinda fruit if I'm hungry, thanks ill try harder to eat better
Yes, do try Energy. You can lose unwanted weight on this medication! My GP doc had a patient on Topamax for migraines and the man lost 90 pounds!! The minute the patient went off of Topamax, he began to gain the weight back, so my doc had to put him back on.
That is one substantial weight loss. Just be careful you don't get too thin!
Hope it all works out for you!
Lara
