I thought I was going to pass out. I have taken regular Xanax for years in a 2mg dose.
I was having a party for my son and was already tired. I took the Xanax XR 3 mg (AM) prior to the party and was slurring my words and nodding off through the entire party. I have been afraid to take it ever since. Has anybody had a weird reaction the 1st time you took it and then it leveled off after taking for a while?
The first time I took the Xanax Xr 3 I was so out of it I couldn't function?

I take xanax xr 2mg one in the morning and one at night and i have found that it has not hit me as hard as the regular xanax 2mg. I actually use to take upto 8mg of xanax a day,now that im on the extended release version I was able to reduce it to half. Also the extendede release version is a wax matrix pill in the whole pill not just the outside, even if you crush it or try to dissolve it in hot water the molecular structure along with the wax matrix makes the drug still time released. It is weird,i know but if you google the xr version you will find that the time release is still in effect even if crushed. I switched to this version because I could feel the initial rush of a 2mg and then it would wear off in about 4 hours and I would have rebound anxiety. I think if you are on xanax the way to go is extended release and you probably dont need as much as your regular dose of the ir pills.
I did notice when I took 8mg of the extended release it did make me very,very tired so I was able to cut down to 4mg a day. I could see how it could make you tired at first but never like what you said. Have you tried it again and if you do try starting out with the 1mg xr, even though it is extended release it seems to work a little better if you split the dose in two. 1MG in the am and 1mg in the pm. that is a little strange because xanax xr is a "time released"tablet as regular xanax is released quicker... however if u "crushed or chewed" the pill u disintigrated the "extended release"coating"and that put all 3 mgs into your system instantly and thats why you may have felt a lil out of it. always swallow xanax xr WHOLE.

Thats very odd. The 3mg Xrs shouldnt be much stronger than a regular 2mg, plus the extended release effect should help it not hit you hard and all at once. You didnt have any alcohol at the party did you? Or possibly crush the pill somehow before ingesting it? (like possibly chewing it). Ive only taken xanax xr a few times and i found it was very good for what it was made for, and it didnt KO me at all
