I've been under a lot of stress and can't sleep well unless I take a pill. I only take one pill of tylenol PM normal strength since the end of January this year. I'm concerned with what this could do to my liver and if I should consider changing to another drug that does not contain acetaminophen.
I've been taking one tylenol PM every night for a month, no other medications, is that bad?

acetaminophen/diphenhydramine hcl. generic (Tylenol PM) avoid the dangers of acetaminophen, take only diphenhydramine hcl (Benadryl). Unless you also need pain relief. As far as the safety/length of time you can take any medicine please check with your doctor or pharmacist, when you can't get in contact with the doctor, a pharmacist is a great source of information on drug safety. Actually they usually know more about
drug safety than MD. Just be aware that Benadryl has drying effect It can cause enlarged prostate in men. Be careful with any drugs you take. Also the best thing is only take drug when unable to go to sleep. You may find that the act of going to sleep with a sleep aid will help get you used to or able to fall asleep on your own easier. Please follow directions and safety precautions listed on the drug bottle.
Hi, this shouldn't be a problem considering you are taking a low dose. You could carry on with this, or you could discuss with your doctor an alternative that may be more suitable long term. Also you should look in to 'Good sleep hygiene guides'. They can help you more than you may imagine...
I can tell you one thing. Do not take diphenhydramine with sertraline... they really don't play well together... bad experience last week.
All that is in the tylenol for sleep is diphenhydramine. That is in many sleep meds and by itself. Most things that have tylenol in can be avoided. I try to too. You may need slight pain relief too. If that's the case, try an aleve with it.
You have no worries if it's only one. Of course, you can look into non med alternatives for sleep so you can eventually do away with depending on a pill. Try it; 90-days, eliminate the following; sugar, all forms (read your labels, Corn syrup, fructose, honey, etc.) including artificial, caffeine, alcohol, start mid-day walks, 30/45 minutes, change pre-bedtime habits beginning from 3 hours before, and be sure you are adequately hydrated throughout the day. Examine when your last meal is and what it is. There's more.
Of course, as stated if this is all you're taking it will not harm you, but why not just be free from it and improve overall health at the same time?
