So here is a bit of history. I have been on Paxil for over 20 years and last fall I tried to come of of it and my anxiety and depression came back so I got back on it. However after months it does not seem to work anymore. So my doctor switched me to Cipralex (escitalopram). I have now been on 10mg for 6 days. No real side effects except for insomnia. I take melatonin that seem to help a bit. How long before the insomnia side effects disappear?
Switching to escitalopram from Paxil?

Hi, Nanics!
Sadly, it's not at all uncommon for antidepressants to "poop out" after long term use. I've been taking meds for many, many years and I've had two different meds stop working for me.
As for the insomnia it usually subsides after only days (nights) to a week or two. Keep up with the melatonin if it helps but if the insomnia doesn't resolve with the next week or so you should let your doctor know about it.
Best regards and hope you're getting your Zzzz's back very soon.
Thanks. So far it has not been that bad with the side effects. It’s only been 6 days and I know it takes a while to take effect. From what I read, escitalopram is better than Paxil. Paxil has lots of side effects.

Paxil has lots of side effects. Mr previous doctor prescribed it for me because at the time is was good and escitalopram did not exist
So the zz’s are back. It’s been 2 weeks on 10mg. Energy and appetite is getting better but how long for mood to change?
You're making progress... Hooray! Keep up the good work.
"How Long Does It Take For Escitalopram To Work?
Sleep, energy, or appetite may show some improvement within the first 1-2 weeks. Improvement in these physical symptoms can be an important early signal that the medication is working. Depressed mood, anxiety, and lack of interest in activities may need up to 4-8 weeks to fully improve."
Thanks. I would have thought that because I was on Paxil previously it would have worked faster. But I guess not
