My doctor wants to switch me from 75 mg of Effexor to 10 mg of lexapro. I have more anxiety than depression and he thinks lexapro will be better. He told me just to take them at the same time and then after a few weeks stop taking Effexor. Seems not right... I'm thinking I'll do every other day for a week or 2 and then only take lexapro? He's super unhelpful. Any advice helps - thanks!

Effexor is the best one for anxiety but u need to get to 150mg lexapro is noted to dope u up. I’d be reluctant to change. Effexor is hard to wean off must be done very slowly I would say reduce to 37.5mg and stay on that for a couple of weeks before alternating one day on next day off. Good Luck
My sister has the same problem she takes Ativan for high anxiety and lexopro and she says it works fine for her. Good luck
Hi, Minnesota! Effexor can be very difficult for some people to discontinue and so doctors traditionally put you on a reducing dose schedule over several weeks... even if you are taking another antidepressant.
You're on the right track... if you can't get any help from your doctor... at least try every other day, every third day, etc... or get a second opinion if you have problems.
