I have just started on Effexor XR (75mg) today along with 30mg mirtazapine. I’m currently an inpatient on a psychiatric ward! I am praying this works for MDD Any success stories PLEASE?
Has anybody had success with Effexor XR and Mirtazapine?

This is a highly effective combination. It is known as "California Rocket Fuel". I've been on the combo and it worked really well for me for a while.

Thank you so much! I just need that kick to get me out of here and able to access therapy, exercise, socialise and stop wanting to not be alive! I know it’s not a cure all and I don’t expect it to be. I just want to feel a bit better so I can start to help myself. I’m only on day 2 so I know it won’t be effective yet but I’m hoping it doesn’t take much longer
In my experience it takes between 1 and 2 weeks to start showing significant effects, so hang in there as best you can till then. It should provide the help you need to to all the other important things to get better.
Did it make you not be able to sleep for the first few days? I’ve not been able to sleep the last couple of nights and I feel like I’ve taken a step back. I’m hoping it’s just a side effect and once I can sleep again the effects will kick in! I just really want to be better :(
Yes, that is 100% a side effect of both effexor and 30 mg remeron. It will pass in time, however,
if you decrease the remeron to 15 mg it actually HELPS with sleep, so you might suggest that (it is a well known thing). Otherwise, you will adjust and start sleeping better soon -- till then take naps if you can.
Hi, sorry to keep asking you! I just need reassurance! I started the venlafaxine last Thursday and yesterday and the day before I felt like I was really turning a corner and then today I feel almost back to the beginning again! :’( ... is this normal? Will it get better? I think my dose of venlafaxine will be increased tomorrow to 150mg ... could this help aswell?
Yes, it is completely normal to go up and down in the beginning of taking any antidepressant medication. The fact that you saw a bit of relief is a good sign. Generally you don't see mood improve much at all during the first 2 weeks, and then during weeks 3-6 you should see mood get better slowly. But you will still have ups and downs all along the way. Also, yes, going on on the dose can help too. I don't know your history, but since you are an inpatient I assume you have had some experience with medications not working, but that doesn't mean that this combination will not work. However, if it doesn't there are still many options. My bet is that you will feel much better within a week or so. If you are still not sleeping they can give you something for that in the short term till you adjust to the medication.
Also, never worry about asking questions, "it takes a village" to get thru depression and I'm glad
to help in whatever small way I can. Hang in there.
Thank you so much! Honestly you have been like my angel and I really feel like I am STARTING to pull through a little bit! I don’t know if I would have done it without your reassurance! I will always be grateful to you - whoever you are! X
Well that is great news--- starting to slowly feel a bit better is the exact way healing begins, but again, don't worry if you have a few dips along the way--just don't panic.
I'm so glad I have been able to help you. Please reach out whenever you need to.
For now just try to relax and let the medications do their job and hopefully you will be home soon.
Thank you for everything! I think I am going home Thursday! :)

That's great news. Just hang tight and remember not to be discouraged if you have a down day or two--full recovery takes weeks/months. But what you can expect is slow and steady progress. Take care and all the best of luck, bev
