I had been on creons 24,000 3 times a day with meals (chronic pancreatitis)I used to take them after meals but still loosing alot of weight. I am 40 years old and weigh 78 pounds... I was almost dying Until i found a very good Doctor in NY. He told me to take the creons 20 mins before eating a meal. After a month I STOP loosing weight. Now its been like 8 months and now weigh 93 pounds and still gaining but slowly and healthly. I also have severe diabetes. Please do what i did you wont regret it. Wishhing all of you luck and do what it takes to survive even if you have to keep changing your doctors.
when i first started creon, they gave me the 3000 dose which didn't do a thing. I went to about 9 creon 24,000 the next day and have been taking them for about 14 months now. I am still loosing about 1/2 pound a month now (NOT GOOD.) Does anyone else have this problem? 5'5" and now 110 pounds.
I don't take creon, but I am losing weight. I had a lot to lose. Have lost almost 40 pounds since February. Diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic May 3. Trying to eat more but it is difficult. I am 6' 2" and now 222. I am 65.
Jacob, sorry to hear about your diagnosis. If they removed part or all of your pancreas you will need pancreatic enzymes, vit D and B-12 sublingually. You can tell if you need Creon if your stools are like soft serve ice cream or peanut butter in consistency and smelly. I went up to 12 - 14 Creon a day and gained a few pounds! YEAH. I feel stronger too. Good luck my friend - pain pills and laughter helps.
I had 36,000 units prescribed. 2 with each meal and snack. I have had diarhhea for almost six months, terrible stomach and abdominal pain that long as well. Diagnosis: no enzymes being created. So far, two doses with an attempt to eat hasnt helped a bit. 15-30 minutes and I'm in the bathroom. I've lost 40+ pounds, 19 in last four weeks.
5' 0" 150 (yes I needed to lose, but not this way). I've not eaten anything in 3 days now. Rather hungry.
GI dr ordered CT of abdomen; tomorrow.
thomas6733 - my co pay was $45 for 240. No insurance? Or getting ripped off.
Immediately--- withing hours, your digestion should stabilize if the problem is caused by insufficient pancreatic enzimes.
This isn't a drug that has to build up in your system like an antidepressant. It is replacement It replaces the pancreatic enzymes you lack, so if taken with meals it should be working to digest that meal.
I was just recently diagnosed with acute pancreatitis. I have been on jello and broth now for almost 4 weeks. Every time I try to eat regular food (low fat/low acid diet) I get terrible pain and nausea. My GI Dr just put me on Creon 1 capsule 3 times a day with meals. So far I don't notice any difference. How long typically does it take before it starts to work?
Thank you for letting me know. This medicine so far is not helping me. My GI Dr is recommending that I go to IU to have an ERCP done where they do some kind of cutting to the sphincter. Just wandering if anybody has had this done and if so do you still have to take the Creon still after having this procedure?
My husband had an ERCP done many years ago, & it caused him to have a very severe case of post- ERCP pancreatitis. He ended up in the ICU on a ventilator.
I had pancreatic surgery my Surgeon put me on Creon 36000 units, 2 during every meal, 1 after a snack. It works however its $1200. a month and I can't afford it. Low doses may not be enough
So what do I do to get help with my diarhhea? Chronic with ANYTHING I try to eat. Used to be able to eat dry toast, white rice, dry toasted English muffin. No longer and Creon 36000 - 2 with each meal and snack doesn't help. My pancreas inst producing any enzymes apparently.
I'm taking Creon 2500 but the dose I've been told to take is 2 tablets per meal or 1 for a snack. They work great and no pain ever anymore. But I must carry them with me because I can't eat without them. Hope this helps.
