He is recently out from USMC and waiting for an important job opening with DOT. He tested positive for amphetamine and is beside himself. He has only taken Zquil, Mucinex, and Sudafed that he can remember. He doesn’t want to go to rehab classes. He wants to prove he has never ever taken drugs. Is there another test than can prove their mistake? Any insight on how to proceed?
My son took a hair follicle drug test with complete assurance he would pass it.

I have read on Sonora Quest website and the Labcorp website that Sudafed and Vick's cough syrup can test positive for amphetamines. He should inform testing facility of all OTC medicines he takes. Labs usually do a 2nd test if it could be a false positive.
I hope it works out.

Doppler 1960 thank you for specifics. We will look there to see if we can use one of those facilities as second lab for first test or if they have any other suggestions. It will turn out okay eventually I am sure.
Did your son pass the second time?
Hi Hellloall, my son took a second hair follicle test immediately upon receiving the dirty test results and that test (by same company) came back clean. And the first test sample was put through a second time for specific chemical breakdown and it came back positive for meth, not OTC medicine, so we think there was a mislabeling or cross contamination somehow, because that wouldn’t disappear from the rest of his hair in less than 7 days. He is still working, just not in those facilities.
I am sorry about the situation your son is in. I empathize as I too have taken hair follicle tests, but have passed them all, with no false positive results.
I can tell you that Sudafed contains Pseudoephedrine, and this can cause a false positive for Amphetamines.
He must inform his superiors of all of the medications he has taken for the past 90 days, and present evidence (prescriptions, Dr.´s letters, etc.) in order to confirm the test gave a false positive result.
I hope this information helps.

Thank you for your response. He has already submitted another sample for more testing to keep the job he is currently working. He hopes send a piece of the first sample to another lab to more completely tested. The lab didn’t care that he said he had taken Mucinex or Sudafed or Zquil. Said he had to have done meth, but we have addiction in our family and he wants none of those hardships. We will keep plugging forward. Thank you.
You are very welcome and I hope everything works out fine for your son.
Agreed the cold medications and many nasal medications contain it.
