My wife who is pregnant has vaginosis and doctor prescribed to her to use cephixime tablets. Are they harmful or not?

Cefixime is considered pregnancy category B in the US by the FDA, meaning:
Category B
Animal reproduction studies have failed to demonstrate a risk to the fetus and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women.
Use is recommended only if clearly needed and the benefit outweighs the risk.
With regards to the potential side effects, as it says "potential" side effects , your wife may experience some or may not experience any at all depending on how sensitive she is to this antibiotic.

It is not known whether this medicine will harm an unborn baby. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant.
It is not known whether cefixime passes into breast milk or if it could harm a nursing baby. Tell your doctor if you are breast-feeding. You may need to stop nursing while you are taking cefixime.
