I have been taking prednisone for my asthma. I am being advised to take a drug called Nucala, which requires that I receive the Shingrix vaccination before I begin taking it. Should I stop the Prednisone before the shingrix vaccination; if so, for how long? And, once I get the first shot of the shingrix (it's a two stage vaccination), when can I resume the prednisone course? Unfortunately prednisone is the only relief that I for my asthma - and also somewhat problematically, I am getting conflicting opinions from two different doctors (I hope you get all this - my last question was truncated quite a bit for whatever reason).
Shingrix - I am taking prednisone for asthma. I am told I should discontinue the prednisone course?

Are you asking about Shingrix? That is a shingles vaccination. It doesn't have anything to do with asthma.
And what dose of prednisone are you on? For how long?
I was diagnosed with Asthma about six months ago - a rare form - eosinophilic asthma. I have been off and on prednisone during this period - my last extended dosage being 10 mg daily.
I need to get the Shingrix vaccination to try a drug for my asthma called Nucala. I was taking 10 mg daily for about a month.
I would really research the shingles vaccine. There are many adverse reactions.
I am also on Prednisone for Asthma. I have Eosinophilic asthma like you. I am now taking the
Nucala injection. It has helped the recurrence of asthma a great deal. I can actually breathe
normally and not coughing at all. Am taking 4mg Prednisone daily. The side effect of the Nucala injection is Shingles, at least that's one of the side effects. So the doctor recommended taking
Shingrix. So I did. I am fine. I need to get another Shingrix shot soon. Do not stop taking your
Prednisone medication even if you are taking the Nucala injection. That's what my doctor told
me. Shingrix is recommended to patients who are immune suppressant as I am.
Please be aware that prednisone comprises the immune system and taken long term can destroy it's ability to fight infection. Take the lowest dose possible for the shortest amount of time.
