You might want to check your medications to see if weight gain is a side effect. When I was on antidepressants, with one I gained 60 lbs in 6 months; another 40 lbs in 4 months!! It does happen . Regards - EJ23
Im on Effexor and 4 blood pressure meds. Doctor checked them and said they shouldnt be causing weight gain. Im beside myself. I never had this problem before. Guess I just wait and go to endo doc. Thank you for your help and advice.
Doctors mean well, but they might not be aware of every medication's side effects. The meds you are on may not be well known for weight gain but may have that side effect for some individuals. There is a drug-interaction check on this website - Drugs.com - just put in your meds and see what you come up with. Also check each individual med by typing in the name at the top of the page. It never hurts to be a well-educated patient!
Have you considered going to one of those "medical diet" places? They do lots of tests to see what will tweak your metabolisms, then have you go on a low-calorie, big vitamin medically supervised diet. My brother went to one and lost 75 pounds. He said it was tough not eating much, but he wasn't hungry. Just thought I'd give you one person's experience. Take care and keep trying!!! EJ23
MRSGEONICE1 Tell you first go to the drug and look it up the company has many sugestions But here in Oregon almost all diet pill came to a stop. The doctors and pharmacy's have very tight regulations and most don't want to go through all the nonsense to prescribe or dispense the diet pill,The FDA and state medical board looks very close at the doctors the restrictions are like you have to be considered like 20% OBESE you must go into the doctor weekely and prove loss of weight by diet and excersise, all this has to be log in and kept on record for the md board to check to see if they are doing every thing to the line So most doctors well not prescribe but there are some clinics that specialize in just this see if one is in your area..I am sorry but it is real hard now days they watch all of us from Pharmacy and physician and it can get the doctors license restricted i know of many this happend to Anyway go to the sight as i said and see if you can qulifiy.on this can't blame the doctor etc. Chuck1957 retired pharmacy technician cpht OREGON.
Thank you for your response. I do understand what.you are saying. I do know I qualify. I am considered obese. My doctor said she would refer me to an endocrinologist (sp) to help with my weight. Not sure what they will do. I have been gaining weight like crazy and everything checks out normal. I don't get it. Anyway thank you again. Merry Christmas.
that doctor would be like to check your thyroid and other glands which can cause you to gain weight quickly... good luck my friend and happy holidays to you and your

I had my thyroid checked this week and each year $or the last 3. Its normal.
Yes liz has a valid response,Before the doctor sends you the specialist ask your reg doctor if that could be possible or check with pharmicist I do think the reason to go to that doctor is its more than a thyroid problem that can cause weight gain and posible that doctor is tuned in to prescribing diet pills very irritating they preach to loose weight you quliffy but cant get help also they might be ruling out any gland problems before going on a diet pill regameent chuck 1957 i am sorry i shake so bad in the morning it is hard to type happy holidays and i commend you on trying to loose weight i know many people that eat less than normal and are still obese its in your genes that again that might be the other doctor job to figure out my friend have good day. cw
