I've had GERD for over 30 years I've taken omeprazole (Prilosec) 40mg 2Xs a day for over ten years. While taking a 40mg Pepcid (famotidine) that's 3 pills for my GERD. I've other Rx meds each day as well. I've been to the ER 8 times to have food removed (endoscopy) due to an esophageal restriction. I've had every PPI available one time or another going from one to the next under the direction of a doctor. I sleep in a bed that has the head raised 3 inches to keep food from coming up. The food blockage stopped about 18 years ago, I guess the ring wore out. You should talk to your doctors; I use the Portal many now have that online... no cost. By what you've written, in a hurry it seems, I don't get a clear image of your history, but it sounds like you have GERD it's more serious than reflux and heartburn. It's a disease and you should have a gastroenterologist assigned as a steady specialist that you see regularly until things become more predictable. You should have a steady PCP (primary care doctor) an internist is a good type. I'm over 80 and I don't think you're in trouble you just need to talk to your favorite doctor, the one you trust most. Calm down, doctors want to help. Yeah, it can get costly, but your health is priority ONE. I hope I've been some help, but I don't know much about you. I'M NOT A DOCTOR nor even a nurse or health care person. I'm a patient and at my age things seem to crop up every year. Take care, be well. Things are gonna get better.
