I went to the emergency room with severe pain in my left arm. Turns out the dr thinks I may have a torn rotator cuff and prescribed a five day supply of prednisone until I see my orthopedist. Pain in my shoulder is practically gone now. Is that because the prednisone is masking the symptoms or could it really be better?
Prednisone to alleviate shoulder pain?

Prednisone is a steroid which is a magic Rx for pain in a lot of cases. If you experience severe pain in your left arm, you should consider physical therapy seriously rather than taking this steroid. You will feel better for a while, but it will come back most likely.
Prednisone will alleviate the pain but won't cure it. It's an anti-inflammatory.
Ok thanks... I just feel SO much better I wondered if I should even go to specialist tomorrow. I’m concerned pain will come back though since prednisone is only 5 day supply
I would keep that appointment. Torn rotator cuffs can be very painful as you know, and you should get some good info about long term treatment for it.
Also check out side effects of prednisone. Long term use can be devastating and lifelong. I have Cushings Syndrome from long term use and it's awful to live with.
I'm so glad the pain has gone away for you! Prednisone can be great for the short term as your body heals from muscle and joint damage.
Thank you for your reply. I did keep my appointment this morning and dr is amazed at how better I am and said it is just acute bursitis.
That is a great outcome! So glad you won't need surgery or anything. Good luck to you!
