What are the possibilities of getting pregnant if I took my 1st Postinor 2 tablet 7-8 hours after sexual intercourse? I was supposed to take the second tablet 12 hours after but I fell asleep and woke up and took the second tablet more than 16 hours after the first tablet ; approximately 18 hours after intercourse. What are the chances of getting pregnant?

It should be taken as directed, but hopefully it shouldn't lessen the chances of helping prevent pregnancy, from what I've read.
It just depends if it had a good chance of preventing pregnancy to begin with. If you were ovulating, then the other emergency pill called Ella (Ulipristal Acetate) is the only pill proven can help prevent pregnancy. You can see that on their website. Also, it shows on the ec princeton website, on their page about emergency contraception, that women in a study who used Levonorgestrel during the day of ovulation, had as many pregnancies as those who did not use any emergency contraception.
Do you know if you were around ovulation?
I should be in my ovulation week come to think of it. Could I take another course of Postinor 2 to make sure?
No. Extra doses are no more effective. Thats been proven. They'll just mess up your hormones even more than they will already.
If you were ovulating then it's Ella you needed. Either that or you can have the Paragard IUD fitted by a doctor within 5 days of the sex. That can stop the implantation of the pregnancy.
Thanks much
You're very welcome. I hope you get the result you want. Ella can be taken up to 5 days after sex.
If you weren't actually on your day of ovulation, then the Postinor 2 pills (Levonorgestrel) may be in time to delay your ovulation to prevent pregnancy.
Hi again... i was trying to source ella tabs at the pharmacy but to no avail ... what i really wanted to know was if there's any pills i could take?
I'm still a little bit worried because my last period started the 17th of december and lasts up to 4 days. On most days i have 28 day cycle because sometimes it fluctuates, i had unprotected sex the 24th of december i took a postinor2 7-8 hrs after like i was saying earlier but i fell asleep and took the second pill 18hrs after the 1st pill... and being that sperm last up to 5 days do u think there's a high possibility i could be pregnant if so what can i take other from the ella pills to prevent this?
From the dates you've given, you should have been far enough from ovulation for Postinor 2 to work, if it was going to work for you. It works by delaying your ovulation. It may work in more ways, but it has not been proven yet.
If you managed to find Ella, I would advise not taking it until day 5 (within 120 hrs) after the sex, the last day you can take it. That's because they don't know enough about whether it could cancel out the effects of the Postinor 2. They could cancel out each other, leaving you totally unprotected.
If you wait until the 5th day, hopefully the Postinor will have had chance to delay your ovulation, & so the Ella won't effect it, but may still work to prevent pregnancy, if Postinor 2 couldn't. By that time, it'd be too late to try using other birth control pills as emergency contraception, & if you try those any sooner, you risk the big dose of birth control pills cancelling out the Postinor 2, & neither might work.
Ella is also known as Ulipristal Acetate. That might help you find it.
Your other option for emergency contraception is to have a Paragard IUD fitted by a doctor within 5 days of the sex. That can prevent implantation.
Thanks a mill again
