It is not that it is ineffective, they just did no trials on women who weighed over 165-170 so they dont know if it is as effective in heavier women as it is in their thinner counterparts. Many of the hormonal birth control methods were not tested in heavier women and some of them have been shown to be a little less effective in heavier women, not ineffective-just a little less effective bit it is really unknown how much less effective. The best way to prevent pregnancy is to protect yourself BEFORE sex, not after. You should always use spermicide with condoms to help kill sperm in the event of breakage. As Kaismama point out, bleeding is NOT a sign of pregnancy!! "Implantation bleeding" is very rare and it is only very light blood tinged spotting for perhaps a few hours only, if even that. Most women do not have "implantation bleeding" anyway.
It is rather foolish for women who use these medication as an excuse to have unprotected sex now figuring they can just take Plan b later. I realize that you did not do this-you used it in the way it is meant to be used-for emergencies like a broken condom. All Plan b does is delay ovulation for a few days IF you havent ovulated already so timing is very important. If you have already ovulated, this pill doesnt do anything.
im on birth control but missed my pill that day. and of course the condom breaks. this is my first time using a emergency contraceptive so i was curious into the weight thing. and my period was wierd and i noticed implantation was a possibility so i was asking. thank you very much for clearing this up!
Did it work?
They did in fact do research on women weighing over 165 lbs, the issue was, that women weighing over 165 lbs were three times MORE likely to become pregnant than women who weighed less than that due to the BMI. Their BMI was such that they were not getting the full 1.5 g of Levonorgestrel. Therefore causing them to become pregnant more often than women of a normal BMI.
Bleeding is NOT a sign of pregnancy. What you had was break thru bleeding from the plan b. I've never heard of weight being a problem. Not for plan B. I just went thru their web site to see if there was anything about it, but didn't find anything. You can call them and ask. Their info line is 1-800-330-1271. Let us all know what they say please.
right when you google plan b weight limit it tells you the european manufacture said that plan b is ineffective if you weigh over 170 pounds or so.
