It hurts to sit or stand. I find some comfort if I am lying on my stomach. It doesn't hurt to take deep breaths. I have taken Gas-X and that hasn't helped.
I’m, of course, concerned that it’s cardiac related. You need to see a doctor to rule that out.
If your young and healthy it’s most unlikely.
It may be a pulled muscle. There are small muscles between the ribs that can become inflamed.
The best treatment is to take NSAIDs and use a heating pad.
The fact that it is affected by change in position makes me think it’s muscular.
Costochondritis can also be caused by coughing. If you are coughing that hard then you should take cough syrup to suppress it (unless your congested). NSAIDs would also help control the pain.
If it’s not gone in a week I’d see my doctor.
If you are at the age or have cardiac history then I’d give the doctor a call and let him decide.
