I have always struggled with anxiety but recently I was having several panic attacks per day. I went to my doctor and she prescribed me 10mg of escitalopram. Yesterday was my first day taking it and I've never taken any other sort of anxiety medication before. Right after taking it, I was fine but after a few hours I began to feel a bit odd. Like someone put cotton in my head. It wasn't too bad last night, but this morning I woke up and I feel kind of foggy and distant? My friend said its most likely my body trying to get used to it, but I wanted another opinion on if I should be worried or not. (I am 18, and I am already planning to tell my mom as soon as she gets home from work.)
Is it normal to feel foggy after taking escitalopram?

Yes, it’s a common side effect with SSRI medication in the early days. It should pass soon. It normally settles down once you adapt to the medication. Try not to worry, it’s all completely normal ❤️
Yes, it's not uncommon at all for some people to experience side effects when first starting an antidepressant/anxiolytic like escitalopram and it is your body's reaction to the drug.
Side effects generally subside within just days to a week or so for most people.
I took escitalopram (Lexapro) for over 7 years and it worked beautifully for bith my depression and anxiety disorders. I hope it works as well for you!
If you have questions or concerns along the way feel free to post again, okay?
