I had drenching night sweats for 5 years. Recently discovered a total cure: gabapentin. Definitely worth asking your doctor about it. I experience side effect of daytime "spaced out" feeling, but will try a lower the dose. Fingers crossed. BTW it's not female hormones. It was developed to treat epilepsy.
Thanks TT
Were the night sweats from the effexor xr? If so then I'll ask about gabapentin. And the day time spacey feeling was from the gabapentin, right?
I know it's not female hormones, not being one!
I keep large, thick towels handy. I sleep on them and use them as blankets!
I do! Horrible. Every night. I'm on Effexor too, and I will wake up completely drenched. Did you ever figure out a solution??
nope. have to sleep and winter is winter!
Hi. I had ovarian cancer in 2009 at age 49 and had a total hysterectomy. I had terrible night sweats after and when I asked my dr what I could take to help relieve the symptoms, she said because I had the cancer, there was nothing I could take. When I kept asking her, she said the only other thing that I could take, I was already on... the antidepressant Effexor XR. Amazingly enough, I had just gone down on my dose of Effexor and she said to try going back to the previous dose. I'm not kidding you, within a few days, my night sweats disappeared!
I am on effexor also about 6 years, in the last 2 years I get horrible night sweats. I have not tried but know of others(with just night sweats not on effexor) that have and it helps, Black CoHash. Its over the counter at a drug store with the vitamins. Now you may want to check if men should use it, I am not sure about that. But I don't believe its a hormone med., think more of a vitamin.
Now that everyone has had a chuckle or two lol. Unfortunately no there isn't anything that you can do about the sweats caused by antidepressants. Some suggestions though for dealing with it at night is flannel sheets & pillow cases and forget about the blankets. Now warm flannel sheets sounds counter productive I know but what happens is that the flannel absorbs more moisture without making you feel chilled so you don't wake up as often.
Now how did I figure that out - menopause lol but I had to use that trick again when I was on the antidepressant Cymbalta last winter for awhile as it makes a person sweaty too.
Take care
OK, thanks for that. Now I know what to do with the Christmas money I got!

The Effexor makes me sweat during the day
I've been on a battery of anti- depressants. When I first started taking them I had night sweats. They went away after a short time. I'd notice the earlier is take it the less chance I had if getting them. Also, if I missed a dose I'd get them. Now I'm on cymbalta and get them every night. I have a plethora of not so nice words in my head for having them, especially being newly married. Im so fed up with not finding one that works for me like the first one I started. I actually got back on it after 10 yrs and it doesn't work the same. I'm rambling, I know. I'm sorry. In short: take it early as you can, same time of day and don't miss a dose. If it doesn't stop within a month i'd switch if possible. It's a catch 22 for me. When our bodies heat up we have nightmares and sweat. Then I end up having nightmares about the things I'm on the stupid medication for in the 1st place. >:s Wish you the best!
Frank, you are experiencing what women call night sweats which occur during menopause. Unfortunately, it also is a side effect of some antidepressant medications.
Yep, I get that, I was wondering if there is anything to remedy it.
But thanks.

Are you sure that it's the Effexor?
I buy a product called "Estrovan" it helps with night sweats a lot
I don't know if that answer is to my question of the comment, but thanks anyway.
Lol! I didn't realize that you were a man! Sorry!
I'm chuckling, sorry, but you're experiencing what every woman over 50 does. I'm on it too and I have nights I wake up soaked. There isn't much you can do about it but change your pjs.
Ha! I guess I had that coming. Thanks for the laugh.

effexor xr, hyperhidrosis, night sweats
