Taking two Nexium a day. Is that okay?

I concur with Susan. My GI doc increased my Nexium dose from 20mg (one OTC tablet) per day to 40mg twice a day due to my experiencing GERD and similar esophageal issues. My health insurance does not cover the Nexium, so I purchase it over the counter (OTC) at my local pharmacy.
Yes. My doctor told me to take 2 a day because I was having a lot of discomfort in my esophagus. Now I am back to 1 a day.
