Naproxen Sodium is the main ingredient in Alleve. I believe your pain requires a visit to your orthopedic surgeon who may prescribe something stronger for your pain. People who suffer from sciatica are in extreme pain that comes and goes. They never know when an "episode" will occur. Naproxen is an NSAID (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug) and should not be taken over long periods of time. My best friend suffers from sciatica due to a herniated disc in her back. Her doctor told her there was an operation that would end her pain, but she is too afraid of back surgery and her only relief would be to prescribe a strong muscle relaxant to be taken only when her pain became severe. I suggested that she get more regular exercise like a 20-minute walk each evening. Miraculously, her pain lessened considerably. She takes Alleve occasionally which seems to be working just fine.
Hi thanks for your reply. I have been told by my doctor that I am getting siatica symptoms however my left knee also hurts along with the leg from buttocks down to ankle I am worried and in great pain
Have you consulted with an orthopedic doctor? They specialize in this type of pain.
No just accident emergency at hospital and my local doctor.
The knee pain comes and goes took codeine phosphate the other night and woke up on middle of night and felt like a cold sweat / flash which lasted few seconds.
Jay, that could be the codeine. I've had that symptom occasionally when I have had to take codeine with cough medicine. Hope you feel better!
