Ice is your best friend right now and so is elevation. My wife had a total 6 months ago and still has to take an occasional Norco. You can even alternate between Heat and Ice while elevating, but don't use heat if you have a lot of swelling from your foot to your knee.
The swelling itself will increase the pain level so keeping that swelling down is critical, so Ice it, and you just have to lie down and elevate it when your body says so.
Also, you can use compression hose to help keep the swelling down in your lower leg, I still put TED hose on my wifes leg every morning before work to keep the swelling at a minimum through the course of the day.
Be careful though, blood clots are a major problem post knee surgery, and if you have any signs of DVT's you need to go and get an ultrasound done to make sure no blood clots have developed. Look up the signs and symptoms for DVT's on the web, ask yourself how many of those you have.
Good luck, the surgery has come a long way, but it's not perfect yet.
Thanks,
I will keep icing the knee, I'm on the machine that bends my knee and it keeps the knee swollen. Thanks for the encouraging words
If there is swelling, use ice. Ice may help more than pain meds at this point. I would also go ahead and call your Dr and let him know what is going on.
Looks like ice is best for the swelling, thanks
You can try ice or heat. Did the dr give you any pain meds? Aleve or motrin should help.
I have meds, they don't seem to help for pt. was taken Celebrex
In E R twice for irritated stomach and acid reflux.
Will call dr to see if I can take an ibuprofen
Thanks
