Will name brand Xanax act faster? Is there a difference in strength between the two? I am asking because I have very extreme anxiety attacks, and trying to prepare for a doctors appointment.
Is name brand Xanax more effective than generic alprazolam?

The FDA allows up to a %20 difference in the active ingredients. That's a pretty substantial amount of play between name brand and generic meds.
You can fact check this statement. So if you have 1mg of alprazolam you could have .8mg instead of a whole 1mg.
It really depends on what the fillers are and how you feel with them (nausea etc) although the active ingredient will be the same - I didn't find any difference.
All generics are identical in strength to the brand name but the fillers, binders, and other inactive ingredients may differ and may contribute to the medication's lack of absorption and efficacy. Many generics are formulated exactly the same as the brand name. You might need to try several before you find one that works well for you.
Pharmacies stock the product that is the least expensive when they order from a distributor to keep your cost down but are usually willing to place a special order for the product you want. You may pay slightly more for it but it's worth it if you feel it works better for you.
Greenstone is the best generic alprazolam brand. The company that makes Xanax, Pfizer, owns Greenstone so they’re made by the same manufacturer. It is the closest to the brand name you can get. My Dr. always specifies this exact generic brand only when he writes my Rx. He was also a pharmacist before he decided to he become a doctor so he knows a little more about medications than most doctors. I have tried other generic brands in the past and the Greenstone is definitely the best. I suffer from PTSD as well as a major anxiety disorder which leads to panic attacks. A lot of people think that all generic medications are the same as the brand name but that’s not always true.
Both Xanax and Greenstone alprazolam contain cellulose, corn starch, docusate sodium, lactose, magnesium stearate, silicon dioxide, sodium benzoate, and coloring agents.
They're identical.
Hello sr250g, I have taken both the generic version(Alprazolam) & Xanax the brand name. My doctor told me that they are equally good... but the brand name is more expensive! Some insurance companies will not pay for the brand name & the pharmacy will subsitued the generic version.
Yes brand name Xanax is faster working and is highly effective rather than generic "Alprazolam"
The problem with generic Xanax is the inert ingredients used. I have tried every brand and talked to dozens of pharmacist's that agree. The ONLY one that is as good as brand name Xanax is the generic Greenstone brand as it is made by the same pharmaceutical company as the brand name. I found it difficult to find a pharmacy to special order it for me as I have severe panic and anxiety disorder to where I can't hold done gainful employment. Don't let anyone fool you, generics of this medication except for greenstone brand are very inferior.
If you are going to not shop around for a real pharmacy ( meaning other than commercial) it will indeed pay off. I've found that the name brand is certainly prime; however, if generic is necessary... I recommend the Greenstone brand or Sandoz will work best as well. Please ask a local pharmacy. They haven't a problem telling you their brand. Some pharmacies carry more than one brand.
Hi Sr250,
I have taken both and there is no difference between the two.
I have tsken both and the generic no matter what generic name it is aleays the same tesult... upset stomache(genetic). Also, the potency is exyteemly different. That said the generic is inferior to the name brand. The name brand xanax is the best drug for my extreme anxiety and panic disorder from which I suffered from along with PTSD,since my recovery efforts in the 9/11 terrists attacks in 2001.Iv'e had a difficult time adjusting afterwards.I was petdcribed xanax (name brand). This was because at the time I could afford the name brand. Since my insurance will cover the name brand;however my doc... says they are one in the same. This is not true. The generic has different fillers by different companys. The Xanax company dosen't change their fillers and potentcy. My diagnosis is also PTSD. I am also on a non narcotic psytropic for that. However, I notice the difference between generic and name brand xanax is there anyone that has this problem? If so I am open to advice.
Name brand Xanax works 90 percent better for me and others. If anyone has suggestions prease let me know... asap.Thank tou
I find the generic manufactured by Mylan works better than any version including name brand. It's fast and no side effects. Many generics upset my stomach as well.
There is very much a difference. name brand xanax for 120 tabs $700 bucks, Generic is $43.00. My research on this is yes there is the equal amount of the drug but the added stuff is very different. I spoke to a pharmacist about this and he agreed. The generic stuff is bs and lacks in effectiveness. i have cancer and need to control the anxiety. I have to take double to get anything to work.
I'm a disabled veteran, I'm on a lot of meds. Generic is no different that name brand other than the price. My prescriptions every month cost me less than 30$ the only reason I pay anything is because I live 215miles from any VA facility, if I had no insurance my perceptions would be in excess of 4500$ a month. Generic or Name brand, without having served 23 years in the Navy I would have died years ago. So no there is virtually no difference between Generic and name brand. Don't get ripped off any further by these Greedy Big Pharm. Co. Insist on Generic and do yourself a favor and save some hard earned cash.
