For the several days I have taken the new one venlafaxine. I have been extremely dizzy. I have often had low levels of "vertigo" but this is off the charts. Could it be caused by this med change? Is it a problem to be concerned about?
My pharmacy just switched my Effexor XR 75 mg to this generic - venlafaxine HCL 75mg - Is this ok?

I have been taking the generic form of the extended release for about 1 month. No difference from the brand name. Make sure that if you're on XR you get the extended release generic. Otherwise you're in for side effects because it doesn't last in your system like extended release. When taking an immediate release version the doses need to be broken up so the desired amount in your blood stream stays continuous. Hope this helps!
I'm on the phone getting my Effexor XR prescription renewed, and I was offered the generic. I agreed to it until I saw the posts above. It seems that perhaps it's better to wait and see how others respond before switching. I'm interested in hearing about anyone else's experiences, good or bad.
To follow-up: I did switch to the generic, and I've had no problems with it. I've been on it for about 20 days now.
Many Insurances companies are using cheaper Meds.
I should of said to complain.
I understand their is a way to make ins. pay for better brand.
I think your dr. has to have you try several kinds before they will buy good brand, IF you can fuction on others
hi,if your having bad side effects from a new generic there is a 1-800-number to directly to FDA ill look around for it and try to get back to you when i find it.perhaps someone out there knows it...
I agree with suzanne. Check with your pharmacist. I believe by law the FDA can only approve a generic brand if it works exactly like the name brand. But if 2 people here are already having a negative reaction, definitely bring this up with your doctors! Good luck to you and hope you start feeling better soon.

If you were on Effexor XR 75mg you must be given the newly approved generic version by Teva - Venlafaxine HCl - extended release capsule 75mg.
This is the only generic version that is interchangeable with Effexor XR.
Check with your pharmacist that you have been given the correct generic.
Thank you soo much for the specific information you sent. This will honestly help me and countless others. Your message was great it really helped that you were right on point with everything one would need to be prepared with specific names, precise measurements and even the helpful name you provided
Tesa. You’re kindness and thorough effort is greatly appreciated.
May God bless you
I, too, was switched from Effexor xr 150 mg to the generic version... I've never felt soo irritable, unmotivated, and intolerant!!! I've made an appointment with the doctor to get the Name Brand prescribed!!! This is awful!!!
medications once you are use to a certain brand and it works for you a change is hard to cope with
the doctor needs to talk with the Insurance company and verify to them that these side effects exhist, maybe once he does this then they will make provisions to pay for the brand name, there have been medications (pain wise) that I just could not tolerate because of the difference, the doctor needs to know it's affecting you both this way. hope this gets straightened out
I just wanted to post an update of my personal situation. I am now back on the Venlafaxine ER 150mg tablets (from having been placed on the capsules) and I am fine. The Venlafaxine ER 150mg capsules (which is the generic for Effexor XR 150 mg capsules) did not work for me. Day by day my conditions worsened to the point where on day 4 I was so panicky, disoriented, and ill-feeling that I was afraid to drive or do common day-to day tasks. I will be writing the fda today.
I know exactly what you’re going through❣️I was also switched with the exact same medication you were on and I don’t feel like I did when I was given the name brand. I could immediately tell within day 2 my side effects were much worse than it was compared to when I was on the name brand Effexor. It’s really a shame that the law works the way it does and a lot of Americans miss out on very good high-quality medicine and unless we have enough money we have to take a subpar product.
I have had many pharmacist tell me over the years that generic and brand names are exactly alike they have the same ingredients blah blah blah but to be honest even my doctor said other doctors that he knows and he himself would never take a generic medication if there was a brand name available.

squo;s told me that the ingredients and quality control are completely different in a generic factory compared to a factory that has quite a huge Budget to make the so called “same exact” drug.
It’s just common sense in this case
They’re saying you get what you pay for and unfortunately that happens to be true when it comes to making brand-name and generic made medicine. Extremely frustrating and helpless feeling to not have a realistic answer to this unfair situation. I hope everything works out for you and you somehow get the results you need.
