My cat's dr insists that if a patient has two antibiotics at the same time, it will cancel out the effectiveness of the cure. I have had many trying patients over the last year that got no relief from one drug or the other.
I now have a cat with mild lameness in the rear and what looks like bacterial enteritis. He is happy, drinking lots of water and purry, yet sleeping too much and he is dark runny in the rear. He isn't nauseous but he has no appetite all day. I want to give him Albon and Amoxi-Drops at the same time.
What is the right answer on this?
Mixing Antibiotics?

on target again Marvell, I can't say for the cat but I have been on 3 antibiotics at once and on 2 different IV antiobiotics at the same time what it dod what one didn't get the other had the chance to destroy, the vet I can't answer if he is correct or not, once you become infected sometimes the body is resistant to one antibiotic and using it does not help adding others can target more stubborn bacteria and you have a better chance of erradicating the infection, with my dog the vet told me what usually worked for humans did for animals but I can't be sure about the cat, sorry I can't help any more than I have how long has the cat had this problem? age of the cat would probably be another factor, again I am sorry I couldn't be of more help
I don't know about treating your cat's condition in particular, but for humans it is fine to use two antibiotics at one time. This is done when the infection is very resistant to clearing. Using 2 antibiotics together also decreases that risks of that particular organism/bacteria to build up a resistance to treatment from one particular antibiotic.
