I still have trouble sleeping and do not want to take Ambien or Xanax with my Cymbalta. I’m going to start taking my 60 mg in the morning and was thinking about taking melatonin at night?
Can I take melatonin with Cymbalta?

prescribed Cymbalta brand since 2009 at 63 yrs old, I have experienced many side effects however the benefits do outweigh those effects. in regard to sleeping, I never had a problem until recently, it is not good to take any sleep meds including melatonin or codeine. I take cymbalta for chronic pain PTSD and mdd. This has helped me a great deal I'm very thankful for it. I think all meds have side effects you need to learn how to manage them. I hope this doesn't sound confusing but that's how I perceive most meds. I do take a benzo which I did not want, however needed for nightmares. Do not give up. research, ask questions. Check out the medicine the doctor is giving you, ask a pharmacist , however they do not always want to disagree with the doctor; check with this community also there are PDR's, beers criteria. don't take no for an answer from drug companies, manufacturers or doctors. you will get there.
Yes, I used to take melatonin with Cymbalta often. I would usually take 3mg or less, but I have taken 5mg here and there too.
Hi Hurricane007. I am glad that you are looking for something natural instead of going to the more medication route. Very smart! I have read many times that taking Cymbalta and Melatonin together can increase the risk of serotonin syndrome. It would probably be safer to take magnesium glycinate. It has helped many people who are taking Cymbalta and need help to sleep. Take care and I wish you the best. Cindy
Thank you Cindy I’m actually drinking some sleepy time tea right now. I’ll check it out and have a great healthy and happy new year!
I hope it helps you get some sleep. Another thing I drink is chamomile tea. It helps me to relax. It’s known to treat insomnia and so much more. This tea does boost serotonin but not enough for risk of Serotonin Syndrome. That’s what I have heard. Hopefully if anyone knows differently they will comment. Sweet dreams. Cindy
