Hi Lynda, Sorry I didn't see your question sooner. I take hydroxyzine hcl (brand name Atarax). Hydroxyzine Palmoate (brand name Vistaril) is given more for anxiety first and itching second. Hydroxyzine hcl is given more for itching first and anxiety second. In my case, the HCL is more effective for me for anxiety. It helps me to sleep better also, when I take meds that tend to cause insomnia. I have also taken it in the past for severe unbearable itching from an allergic reaction to a medication. I think you will have more relief from the hydroxyzine hcl tablet, as it has been very successful for me for both itching and anxiety (as well as a better night's sleep when suffering from insomnia).
