How many times a day can I use hydrocortisone cream?

Official Answer Medically reviewed by Sally Chao, MD. Last updated on May 30, 2022.

It depends on the formulation. Cortizone-10 (hydrocortisone 1%) is available over the counter (OTC) and may be used up to 4 times daily. Locoid (hydrocortisone butyrate 0.1%) is only available by prescription. It’s typically applied 2 or 3 times daily.
