I've been having pain during sex since late 2011 and I have gone to a gynecologist multiple times to see why. Every time, he tells me everything looks and feels regular. Today, I was self examining and I found a big, hard lump right behind my cervix. It's slightly movable but extremely painful to the touch, and is in the exact area that hurts during sex. Its size is roughly between a golf ball and a tennis ball, not exact though since it doesn't feel round. It feels a little oblong, but not bumpy or misshapen. The doctor recommended that I get x-rayed to see if there was anything going on that couldn't be seen, but I don't want to spend the money on x-rays if there isn't a chance that it's truly needed. Please help me!
What could a lump behind my cervix be, it's painful during sex and has been there for a while?

Dear Bluesie72, Everybody gave you great advice. Please go to a female
Dr. right away! This large lump sounds very dangerous. Get another opinion,
and don't worry about money! Worry about yourself first! You are worth it...
As said, there are always payment plans. Pls get on the phone, and make
your appointment tomorrow morning. Put your mind at rest.~~dd~~

Go to a gynocologist, not a general physician. I had a GP tell me the same thing once that i mist be constipated. i never get that way either. Turned out I had a fibroid tumor (always benign) the size of a large grapefruit. And they hurt. And that doctor went and had a long talk with the first. the good gut was angry as can be.
Chances are after the ultrasound they will want to remove it. Or they may do a laparoscopy to get a sample. Regardless do not go for a hysterectomy. These can be treated. If it turns out to be cancer, which would be my first thought when I was in your shoes, then you can make the hard decisions. My guess is it is a fibroid. Probably one of many.
As the others have said, do not delay. Get this reviewed by an expert very soon. You will sleep better for having done this. Karen
This is something you have got to get done. I would see another dr too, they could have done a vaginal ultrasound. You cannot let a growth like that alone for any length of time. Hospitals will work out payment plans if you can't pay it all at once.
Go get yourself another opinion! Ask what that bump is? Ask when you get checked if the doctor feels it too? Don't give up until you get a proper answer. If you are having pain there is something wrong of course it's not in your head of course! Keep us posted o.k.
Take care,
Bluesie,
Could you be constipated? If you have a hard stool high up in the rectum, you would be able to feel it during a vaginal exam. Constipation can make sex painful. Try using Miralax for a few days. If the lump is still there after good regular BM's, then you absolutely need to get the x-ray and other testing. Your doc will probably order a colonoscopy or, at least, a sigmoidoscopy if the lump remains. This is not something to procrastinate about. Best wishes to you!
Kathy
I know I'm not constipated, and my partner has felt it too during foreplay and sex a few times and asked me about it. Me, thinking "Oh, he just doesn't understand that that's my cervix and that's supposed to be there" didn't think much of it at the time, but now that I've felt it too and described it to him he says that's what he was talking about. If that's the case, it must have been there for the very least five months. Thank you though, I will keep that in mind for the future!
Bluesie,
In that case, you need to get it checked pronto. Like call tomorrow and get an appointment asap. Let us know what you find out, OK?
Kath
This could be many things. I think a second opinion is needed. I know from experience how hard it is to get the $. I have some medical training and experience, for a mass that size, that the doc did not find, doesn't sound right. I wish you the best luck!
