Yes, absolutely Hiprex will cause extreme hair loss especially in older females after just a week of taking it. The hair becomes brittle, dry and breaks off as well. That was my experience at 54 years old with very long thick hair and more than a year later I am still battling hair loss and breakage that has cost me a fortune $$$$. You will have to weigh the pros and cons of this drug which is more than 100 years old. Discuss your concerns with your doctor and pharmacist. Good luck to you!!
Further to my question on 28th June I have done my own investigations and have found this:- "Methenamine hippurate and Hair loss
Summary:
Hair loss is found among people who take Methenamine hippurate, especially for people who are female, 60+ old."
I am a female, aged 70.
Alopecia is not listed as a potential side effect, I suggest you inform your Dr..
It is most definitely listed as a side effect in women 60 years old and over. I took it a year ago at age 54 and lost more than half of my hair from the root. My very long, thick hair also became dry, damaged brittle with much breakage, and a year later and a couple of thousand dollars in treatments, I am still having significant hair loss. Check with your pharmacist, don’t rely on your doctor for information. These doctors still aren’t even aware of the FDA black box warnings on fluoroquinolone antibiotics!! Ciprofloxacin, levofloxacin and Avelox to name just three. These drugs cause severe permanent peripheral neuropathy and a wide range of symptoms that mimic ms.
You are most definitely right, but on the list of potential side effects of Dugs.com it is not listed, did some research and found the following:
"Hiprex and Hair loss - a phase IV clinical study of FDA data
Summary:
