Stopped cold turkey. My doctor said it was fine to do so. Had lots of side effects except swelling. Had vision problems and fatigue and anxiety and just the sense of not being well. Was really not myself for pretty much the whole 7 weeks I was on it.
How long do side effects last after stopping amlodipine? Was on it for 7 weeks?

I was recently diagnosed with MDIS (Multiple Drug Intolerance Syndrome) & had to go off amlodipine after a few years because I was having too many side effects. The withdrawal was so nasty - it mirrors going off psych meds. The 11.5 days were bad enough, but my BP IMMEDIATELY dropped to under 100 after stopping this poison. The amlodipine was MAKING MY BP WORSE!
Hello.this is Cheryl..I have been taking Amlodipine now regularly for about 6 to 8 months after getting back on it..have not been taking my bp meds as supposed to due to family matters and just neglecting my health to put everyone else's first. My first Doctor recommended just Lisinopril but since that wasn't working sufficiently she put me on another Bp drug to combat it. I was really scared my bp wasn't coming down so I over-dosed myself and took 1 lisinopril 20 mg and 2 Amlodipines at 10 mg each so I was taking 40 mg altogether. About 2 months ago or so I started having a racing heart but thought it was due to stress then my racing heart became more frequent and longer and knowing Amlodipine can do this to you I just stopped taking it yesterday as my anxiety is too severe. I am very scared as I took too much..hoping and wondering when I will be feeling better and this drug is out of my system.
I have not had too much Doctor advice as I have changed Doctors a few times and they would just call in the prescription for me at my drugstore without seeing me. So I have been self medicating..I screwed up and now I have severe anxiety and nervousness... I am also going through Perimenopause so hoping I get better with medication. I no longer take Amlodipine but just my Lisinopril as I saw a NP at a CVS Minute Clinic for advice and she told me I was taking too much! Is there anyone that can advise me? Thank you!!
Day 11 off and I've had very significant anxiety. Did great on the med for BP but it affected my mood terribly.
Kudos, on your withdrawal experience. Like any other medication in our immune system, when withdrawing/cold turkey; there are some setbacks. Severe nausea, swelling of feet/ankles, chest pain and lightheaded feeling. In due time, they will disappear.
I was on it maybe two months had anxiety so bad it was unreal ,heart racing and chest pain stomach issues also got hoarse,I also just had that feeling of not feeling well ..contact doctor she said to stop and symptoms seem to linger on for weeks !! Hoarseness stayed for three weeks after I stopped taking it !! Still have some anxiety not as bad but still have stomach issues ..I would never take it again !!
Thanks for the response. On day 5 off of it and I just want to start feeling better instead of just sitting on the coach. The racing heart and heart palpitations are definitely something I am not use to. Didn’t really have them as bad when on it but now it’s insane especially during the night. 11.5 days for the drug to leave your system is way to long…ughhh
Hope we both get rid of all these side effects!!
Yes !! Prayers for you !!
