I have 2 x 5mm kidney stones, one on each side. I was first put on Doxazosin, but that did not pass either of them so my doctor switched me to Flomax. I just took my second dose but I was wondering if anyone knew about how long it will take to pass them? I have only had random pains, nothing severe enough to say it is moving. I also have H. Pylori so nausea is a given. I just have so much going on medically it would be nice to get these out of the way.
How long will it take to pass a 5mm kidney stone with flomax?

4 days on Flomax and still no pain so I am guessing no movement. Can a 5mm stone get stuck in the kidney and never come out?

Hello. I have been on Flomax now for five days and nothing yet. Mild pain today. But. Keep looking for it and it's still not gone. Some days are horrible. Mine is only 2mm. I will keep you updated. God bless.
So I have two Kidney stones. A 6mm right lower pole renal calculus and 4-5mm calculus at the right UPJ without hydronephrosis. Can anyone tell what this means and where that is located?
Until the stone leaves the kidney your ok. Pain starts when it starts to travel to the bladder. They can stay in the kidney for years.
I just had surgery to remove a 4.6mm stone. It got stuck. Worst pain ever even thought could be felt till it was removed. Normally any stone 5mm or larger are removed surgically.
I went to the er tonight with my first kidney stone to pass 5mm and they gave me something that is suppose to open the tube to pass through to my bladder. I am going to be so pissed if this doesn't work. Having a baby is less pain. I can not taken any other meds. for pain due to other sicknesses. Pray that it works.
Did you pass this on your own? I have a 5mm stuck at right VUJ.
A time line on how long it will take to pass no one knows. If your not having any pain its more likely its A- its in your bladder now or B-you already pee'd it out without knowing. Once it enters the bladder u will not experience any more pain. But that being said it could sit in the bladder for days or weeks before it passes out. If you havent seen a urologist, I think its something u SHOULD do. If u had 1 stone u are more likely to see others In your near future.. good luck.
I am a kidney stones making machine and it can tell you that even in the bladder kidney stones can cause pain. I have had some that have caused me to think that I had a bladder infection but turned out to be a stone or two irritating the bladder. Also a stone can lie dormant so to speak I have had some like that as well that just decide they want to cause havoc one day and then do nothing for a long while.
I am also a kidney stone machine .I was up at the ER in Punxsutawney for really bad back pain in my kidney so they did a CT scan and told me I had a UTI infection and put me on medication her to find out I was peeing blood for 3 weeks that I had a blockage that why I was peeing blood out .well that er Dr did not tell me I had a blockage untail I went to my kidney stone Dr and he said that is why u are peeing out blood so he ask me what was the Dr name and I tell u what he ran his ass out big time so he td me I had to have a stent in for 2 weeks so I did I was so miserable with it so I had to go to er in Brookville pa for the same thing her I have a 7 mm in my tube he don't think I can pass it so Monday I have to go and see him to see what he going to do so wish me luck
Any size stone can get stuck in the kidney. I had lithotripsy and can still feel one bouncing around. Hurts like all get out!
Drink lots and lots of fluids. Wash them down. I don't envy you if they both go at the same time.
I have been drinking so much water ugh. I am not able to drink anything else because of the H. Pylori so it is my only option.
I apparently also am a kidney stone making machine as well. I have 2 4mm on my left side. One lay dormant at 3mm for 3 years then grew a mm and now ONE of them is starting to pass. My kidney dr informed me that ONCE the stone is in the tube, flomax will work perfectly and eject the stones out. I asked him if I could forgo surgery and just take the flomax to pass them and he told me since they were STILL in the kidney the flomax won't work until they pass into the tube. Hope this helps. I'm hoping mine will go into the tube as then time for the couch, a gallon of water, and a flomax. UGH.
I understand that Flomax simply relaxes the ureters which allows the stones to pass thru easier, it will not accelerate the passing of the stones. Love the comment about being a kidney stone making machine, it made me chuckle, especially since I learned today I have 9, count them, 9 stones in EACH kidney, for a grand total of 18 right now, all roughly 5 & 6mm in size. I've got some fun days ahead.
