Ive got a 13 year old who was given this medication by a consultant. He has been suffering with really bad wind for 5 weeks and nightly stomach cramps. He has been taking one a day for 5 days with no change. He has been told to take it for 6 weeks. How long should i give if they are not working??? Any ideas please

if it is for acid it should work in a couple days. i tried it and had bad stomach .(i h, ave acid reflux and sm amount of barrets esophegous.)GASTRO DR SENT ME FOR SEVERAL TESTS AND SAID I AM ALLERGIC TO IT.i had been taking protonix for 10 yrs and ins. stopped covering.dr sent form to ins .i got back on protonix and pain got better.if pain persists,i would keep bugging dr.
I feel 6 weeks is too long to take medication for if it doesnt work. His next appointment is not until 28th March. He has been given medication for IBS for years but none worked. Our doc then said there wasnt anything she could do so he got reffered to hospital. He has already had ranitidine which didnt work. I dont think they know what it is! Im at the end of my tether after 5 weeks.
has he been to a gastroenteroligist? i also have ibs was sent for several tests.also had partial blockage upper gi with barium, barium enema(ouch)and small bowel xrays.always shows inflamation. i think that is what causes pain.
levsin works for me, problem is if eye pressure too high could get vision problems.it is like a muscle relaxer for intestines
no he has only seen a general consultant. He said if these tablets dont work he will need a camera.
The doctor told him to take the meds with food but some on here say take before food. This is the worst time for him he is full of Wind at the min soon the cramps will start! :(
i take it 1 hr. before, but there could be different reason with food. i found out i had gerd from camera(gastroscopy-upper). if symptoms are worse with omeperazole(which is generic prilosec),i would contact dr. there are several different acid meds. do tums help?
No we have tried tums before and gaviscon they don't work. He has been on Buscopan, mebeverine, colpermin and peppermint water. Tried windease and peppermint cordial. I could open a pharmacy. Lol
Has your son been tested for food allergies or have you kept a food diary. If not I would take him to an allergist. Good luck.
If he is being treated for an ulcer, it can take a few weeks to see the effects. I suspect that is what the dr is treating for, I've had both those symptoms when I had ulcers.
The doctor didnt say it was for ulcers i assumed it was for acid. His stomach sounds terrible and he cant stop burping. He is in agony every night with stomach cramps which usually last about 20 mins. He hasnt been to school since before christmas with it :(
It sounds just like Celiac Disease/Wheat Allergy. I have that. It now looks like I have GERD as well because of newer symptoms... From the research I've done online it seems like a lot of conditions have excess gas as a minor side-effect... But Celiac Disease, it's non-stop gas. For me, if I eat anything with gluten (or wheat with the gluten removed), it goes as follows: 1. Within 1 minute I burp and feel a bit uneasy (easy to just ignore if you don't notice it). 2. Within 15 minutes I have lots of burping. 3. 1 hour in, lots of burping and farting, minor stomach cramps. This takes a few hours to clear up. 4. The next day, gas starts again and they smell worse than the day before... This lasts another few hours.
