hi haventgotone,YES.there are blood and urine tests that can the diffrence between the many kinds of benzo's.xanax,valium,ativan,klonipin. you name one and there's a test that can pick out the correct benzo and also a test called a peek and trough test.I see it happen everytime i go to my counsling appt every week.a quickie urine test in your doctors office will just say benzo. but the lab results do show which benzo it is.as far as the amount in your system same rules applies. doctors office test will show him or her which drugs are in the sample, then your doctor put the samples in for the lab to varifiy their findings, and your doctor can ask for the levels of those drugs found also. its done to see if your meds are holding you at a proper blood level after a certain numbers of hours after injuestion.hope this helps... subzero58
Thanks Pete for elucidating for me. Appreciate it. In my experience, most PM docs, before the first office visit, get a urine sample for a test for the presence of meds, then send it out for levels, metabolites ... etc. Of course if your doc is a hard ass, you get a gas chromatograph/mass spectrometer done, everything is tested for ...
before you get meds. I've been to all kinds in my ten plus years and several states seeing different docs for pain management. It's a hit or miss thing, or used to be. Anything goes now.
I pq'ed you about something else when you get a chance.
Thanks,
Laura
I take Klonopin 1 mg,3 times a day.The Doctors tell me it's not suppose to be a long term medication and then they tell me it doesn't hurt my body inside.I've been on it for a while.I take it as directed but some days I feel that it isn't enough. From the issues I have one of my Doctors says I need something stronger, just not a controlled substance(a Benzo).Anyway I am currently in the process of finding a new Doctor that will perscribe my medication.I feel I benefit from being on them but I don't want to depend on them.Am I already dependent on them or what?I know once my script is gone there is no other Doctor to write me a script to continue my meds.Does anyone know of any Doctors in the Albany,NY area or surrounding area Doctors that will write out scripts for Controlled Substances or Benzos ?Maybe something stronger than Klonopins?Like Xanax or something? Please let me know if you know of any Doctors in the area.Thanks.
Some benzos have the same metabolite, such as diazepam, and temazepam. Will confirmation tell the difference. Morphine and herion? A peak and trough measures how fast your body is metabolizing a drug. After reading your post, I surmise you are on a Methadone Clinic. Moreover all measures from these tests (except an immunoassay test) show variance from person to person who have taking the same dose of the same drug. Thus there is some subjective factors that influence the interpretation of the test results using these tests. For example one patient I know was taken 4 (7.5mg) percocets a day. Her test score using GC/MS was 650ng/ml whereas another patient was taking 240mg of oxycodone a day and his score was 1000ng/ml . We conclude that there are slow metabolizers and quick metabolizers. So I ask you are these test results valid and reliable? People get discharged from pain management based on the results of these tests.
DIfferent tests have different sensitivities, and different drugs stay in different bodies varied amounts of time. Why?
Depends on the screening test used. A dipstick in your doc's office probably won't. If they send it to a lab, possibly. If you are unlucky enough to get a gc/ms test, it will be picked up, your only saving grace is that those tests are expensive.
Peace and have a great and carefree weekend,

thanks for your reply. How about zolpidem - i'll just be honest so i'm prescribed 30mg zolpidem/ambien each night but my body builds up a high tolerance to prescription med *Ive never go near illegal drugs. I have to take 100mg zolpidem to get some sleep. Will blood and urine tests detect the amount of zolpidem still in my system? My blood tests will show positive for zolpidem and possibly valium as i am also prescribed that. I just need to know if the amount of zolpidem is checked for Oh and just want to know how quickly diphenhydramine 500mg will leave my tests clear or stay in my system.
Thank you so much for trying so hard just to give me info. My blood test is wed and i don't know what they are even testing for but after i admitted i was buying med from the web i would expect him to test for everything.
The ambient is just another benzodiazapine. Never heard of testing for Benadryl or the z med. I think you're safe, to tell you the truth. And friend, don't forget we are all human and apt to mistakes. Just don't want you hunting for another doc, can be most frustrating ... I know, I am good at pissing them off, as I usually know more than they do. It's a curse being so smart, or a smartass ...
either is correct.
Let's be cool... dig your weekend and chill,
Laura
Forgot, unless you get the expensive ones, nope, don't test for levels.
Hang I'm there,
Laura
First of all if your prescriped these drugs than they cant do a damn thing because they are "your medacines." Secondly, ambien is not a Benzo, is is a hypnotic that DOES NOT SHOW UP ON DRUG TESTS!
I just want to clarify something that was said, ambien is not a benzodiazipin... drugs that are is xanax(alprazolam), valium(diazipam), kolonipin(clonazipam), atian(lorazipam) libriam, not sure of the generic namte of that one but it starts with a z. There is also one called clorazipate, resteril(temazepam), that one is prescribed for sleep .Theres another one for sleep that starts with a D but i cant think of the name right now. I might of missed a couple but not many and my spelling might not be correct on all but i'll guarentee ambiem is not a benzo.
Ambien is not a benzodiazepine. It is actually classified to be a hypnotic drug. I can completely relate with you as far as the quick tolerance of Ambien is concerned. You might want to ask your doctor about getting the extended release version. I am not sure what all of the different strengths are though. I take the 12.5. While it isn't a miracle cure for your insomnia. It does seem to give you a more continued sleep. Only problem is the price. Since it's relatively new, some insurance companies won't cover it. But if they do, you may have a hefty co-pay.
