Hello,
I have a staph infection under my arm that was tested and is resistant to some antibiotics... I have already taken two antibiotic treatments but it came back and I was now told by my doctor to try Clindamycin. She was not sure though how long and how much of it would be needed to make sure it does not come back... is there anyone that could help me? Thanks so much! Kristin
How much/long to take Clindamycin with staph infection that was already treated with 2 other antib.?

Funny I used to have the same thing UGH and under my breast - huge! Dial was best soap. But now 15 years later I do not get them under my arms any more. I do not know what was different. I did have hysterectomy at 39 and they stopped for a long time. Not saying thats an option, but I have been on clindamycin now for 8 days for something else and will continue to the full 14 - I am not having any problems with the medicine. You know when I look at my history I kept thinking there was something else underlying. I would ask your doc about that.
I had a patient who had the exact problem. She was on Clindamycin for about 14 days. I have to find the dose, but I've got to get ready for work, I'll get back to you.
What was happening for you, is the other antibiotics was cutting the bacteria count down, so you felt better, but as soon as you stopped the antibiotic it could regrow. The dose she was on was 300mg every 6 hrs, for 14 days. It also helps to use an antibacterial wash when you shower.
I have the 150 mg pills right now, but you dont think one of these every 6 hours is enough, hey? wow, 300 mg every 6 hours for 14 days is a lot of antibiotics.. :( uhhh, but if you dont think the 150mg will be enough then I guess I will raise the dosage..
thanks so much,
Kristin
She was active tho at the time. 150 might be enough without you having any boils. Eat active culture yogurt or take a probiotic with it so you don't get diarrhea. You want to take it long enough to knock the bacteria out, so it won't regrow.
thanks so much! will try with 150 and take it for 2 weeks... will I make it worse though if in the end the dosage is not high enough?
Thanks so much again,
K
Probably just have to do it for another 2 weeks at higher doses, however if its a strain that's resistant, and clindamycin works, it will probably work at those doses.
I have the same issue with a lesion under my arm. I had others in the groin and leg when this first started. I took sulfamethoxazole-tmp for a week. The lesions in the groin and leg went away but not the one under my arm - it did get smaller. I also used the antiseptic soap and also did warm compresses. I went back to the doctor - this time she took a culture which came back negative. But I went back on this same antibiotic for another 2 weeks. So this is the last day on the antibiotics and I now have developed a few more lesions on my stomach, along with the one still under my arm. I now will start taking the Clindamycin for 10 days, 4 times a day - don't know the dosage since I haven't picked it up yet. And I'm still suppose to use the soap and compresses. Quite depressing!
