I was put on Celexa for my depression and anxiety and I wanted to know when I will start to feel better? And is there any long lasting affects on my brain?
How long does it take for Celexa to start working?

Hi, Mike!
"Sleep, energy, or appetite may show some improvement within the first 1-2 weeks. Improvement in these physical symptoms can be an important early signal that the medication is working. Depressed mood, anxiety, and lack of interest in activities may need up to 6-8 weeks to fully improve.

To date, there are no known problems associated with long term use of citalopram. It is a safe and effective medication when used as directed."
Hey mike,
It can take roughly about 4-6 weeks for the full effects. Some people may experience sooner or later. Everyone reacts differently to these medication. First few weeks you’ll experience few side effects such as: drowsiness, headaches, fatigue, nausea etc. These side effects usually subside within a couple of weeks once you continue taking the medication. Never stop taking these medication without your health care provider advise. Work with him/her to find what’s best for you, don’t get to amped up on the bad reviews. When these medication work, they work well. Fingers cross that Celexa will be best for you. Stay safe.
I am currently taking 10 mg of Celexa at bedtime and I absolutely love it I am on day two and I already feel the effects I did however start out at 5 for a few days. if you have any side effects on your next dose just cut it in half or even quarters and work your way up that way but don’t be afraid if you have side effects they go away rather quickly And for me anyways they were rather mild with just some increased anxiety that seems to just float away as the day went on. I think Celexa is a great medication I have had wonderful results before when I took this many years ago. Good luck!
Hi, My doctor prescribed Celexa for my depression over the past year, situational (parenting/struggles with my teen), but I'm afraid of weight gain. I'm healthy, took Wellbutrin a few years ago with some success, weaned off and felt fine for a couple of years. Depression lately during covid has contributed to 15 pound weight gain so I don't want to risk gaining more weight. Do you think Celexa is a good choice?
