I have both mutations of the MTHFR gene, take a low dose of Buspar without great results. My doctor recently added Deplin. I’m wondering when I can start to feel if it is going to work for me. 2 weeks—6 weeks? I’m currently at day 6. I’m trying to hold out to see if there’s significant benefit before switching to Effexor XR. I like the idea of Deplin being a brain “food” and not a drug so I’m trying to hold out as long as possible to give it a chance. But I’m getting impatient because I’ve not felt well for over 2 years, trying different SSRI’s. That’s when I switched to Buspar, also without much success. Hence the addition of Deplin after some DNA testing revealed the MTHFR mutations. supposedly, those with this mutation can benefit from methylated folate which supports the “feel good” hormones of serotonin, dopamine, norepinephrine.
How long did it take before you felt any positive results from taking Deplin?

Hi—it seems like you’d really need Deplin bc You’re homozygous for the mutation. Buspar, as I understand it, doesn’t really have antidepressant effects, just anti anxiety. So u may need something different. Some people take antidepressants only for a limited time, then discontinue when they’re brain has adjusted. Also deplin was marketed as an add on to antidepressants, not a stand alone medicine. But I’ve read some say they were able to discontinue their ad after a while.
Be well.
