I started Lexapro 11 days ago for severe anxiety and panic. So far, no relief. I am still having my anxiety symptoms of numbness, tingling, twitching, weakness, and shaking, in my arms and legs and face. I was really hoping it would help with the physical symptoms by now so I can stop worrying about whether or not I have some neurological disorder. My doctor told me all my symptoms are from severe anxiety and stress over the last 6 months. It would be nice to feel normal again. Does anyone know how long I should wait before I know this drug isn't working?
Thanks!
I have been on Lexapro for 11 days?

Thanks to both of you for your information and support. It sounds like both of you have been there with severe anxiety and know what it's like.
I really appreciate your comments.

You’re welcome. Craig don’t get to amped up on the bad reviews. Everyone react differently to these medication. It’s common for individuals to try several meds before finding the one that’s suitable. Just give lexapro a month to build up in your system, you’ll find that the wait was worth it. If it don’t work, don’t worry as much they’re other options. I know you want a quick fix for your anxiety, but it takes time. Just hang in there, I know you’ll get better.
Hi, craig!
"Sleep, energy, or appetite may show some improvement within the first 1-2 weeks. Improvement in these physical symptoms can be an important early signal that the medication is working. Depressed mood, anxiety, and lack of interest in activities may need up to 6-8 weeks to fully improve.
Escitalopram (Lexapro) | NAMI: National Alliance on Mental Illness"
Unfortunately, this class of medication doesn't become fully effective quickly and can actually increase anxiety in some people for the first two weeks or so.
You should be starting to feel some improvement very soon now so try to be patient and keep a positive attitude. If you're not feeling a little better in the next couple of weeks let your doctor know... you may be on an initial dose that could possibly be increased. Remember that you aren't alone in this and many people have been where you're at. Given time I think you may find that the wait was worth it.
Hey Craig,
As what wildcat said- it takes 4-6 weeks for the medication to reach it therapeutic level for the full effect. Just hang in there bud, be patient. Maybe do something to keep yourself busy such as: yoga, meditation, sports and exercise. You’ll feel better soon. I know you will. Keep us updated on how your doing.
Bye take care.
